Abstract:
A facsimile modem transmitter (40) uses pre-fax control signals, such as an answer tone or an FSK (frequency shift keying) modulation signal, to determine a channel spectral shape of the transmission media (14) before transmitting the fax data. The transmitter (40) determines average energy values of the pre-fax signals as a function of frequencies to determine the channel spectral shape. Using the channel spectral shape information, an appropriate transmission shaping filter (64, 66, 68) is chosen for use by the transmitter (40). This achieves better transmit and receive performance by compensating for roll-off on the transmission media (14), or channel, without the need to use specific training signals.
Abstract:
A data communication apparatus automatically sets a signal send condition in accordance with an actual communication status. If the data communication apparatus accommodates a plurality of lines, a call is made from a first line to a second line and a predetermined signal is sent from the first line to the second line, and based on the received information, a signal send condition contained therein is determined and registered.
Abstract:
A system and method of determining the quality of a received facsimile signal is provided herein by measuring the received signal from a digital modem receiver 60. The end of a scan line is detected by looking for the special code of eleven logic 0s followed by a logic 1. The distance value between the position value of the received signal elements and the standard reference position is determined and if this distance exceeds a given threshold that is recorded and the percentage of those that exceed this threshold distance identifies the quality.
Abstract:
In an image communication system capable of performing communication at a plurality of transmission speeds, a transmission-side apparatus transmits a line condition check signal (a TCF signal of the CCITT facsimile recommendation T30, or the like) for determining a transmission speed prior to communication of image data. A reception-side apparatus determines an optimal transmission speed on the basis of a reception state of the line condition check signal (a square error accumulation value, an error count result, or the like in an equalizer of a reception-side modem), and informs the determined transmission speed or a fall-up or fall-down instruction of a transmission speed to a necessary step to the transmission-side apparatus. The optimal transmission speed according to a line condition can be set within a very short period of time.
Abstract:
In a facsimile system, a document to be transmitted is read by a reader. The read image data is stored into an image memory. A control and processing section automatically selects a frame size of the image data in accordance with conditions of a transmission line to be used including a transmission distance between a calling system and a called system. The image data is framed by the selected frame size. The framed image data is then transferred through a MODEM to the transmission line. The facsimile system can effectively transmit the framed image data to the called system.
Abstract:
In a facsimile communication method, a receiving facsimile machine receives a training check field signal TCF from a transmitting facsimile machine and sends a confirmation to receive signal CFR or a failure to train signal FTT to the transmitting facsimile machine depending on a result of the reception of the training check field signal TCF so as to determine a modem transmission speed. A number of erroneous bits in the training check field signal TCF which is sent from the transmitting facsimile machine at an initial modem transmission speed and received by the receiving facsimile machine is detected, and the modem transmission speed is set based on the detected number of erroneous bits. A facsimile information bit which indicates the set modem transmission speed is added to the failure to train signal FTT which is sent from the receiving facsimile machine to the transmitting facsimile machine. The training check filed signal TCF is sent from the transmitting facsimile machine to the receiving facsimile machine at the modem transmission speed indicated by the failure to train signal FTT.
Abstract:
A system for transmitting image data on a telephone network or equivalent, which typically includes video or visual telephones as apparatus of sending part and receiving part. In the video telephone of sending part, when an image data sending key is operated, a DTMF signal generator included in a modem is started to operated and a specified DTMF signal, for example, DTMF-A signal or DTMF-B signal is sent as a signal DTMF-DTA to a telephone circuit through a network control unit for approximate 300 milliseconds. Succeedingly, in spite of presence or absence of a responsive signal from the video telephone of receiving part, a non-signal state is formed for approximate 75 milliseconds, immediately thereafter, the image data is sent from the video telephone of sending part at a transmission speed of 4,800 bps or 2,400 bps. In the video telephone of receiving part, when the signal DTMF-DTA, that is, the above described DTMF-A signal or DTMF-B signal is continuously received for approximate 250 milliseconds, a modem thereof is started at 4,800 bps or 2,400 bps, and the image data being sent from the video telephone of sending part is received.
Abstract:
A data communication apparatus includes a data communication section for preforming data communication according to full duplex communication, a testing section for performing a communication test prior to the data communication, and a transmission controller for determining whether full duplex communication can be performed during a period of the communication test performed by the testing section. The testing section includes a backward signal generator, a backward signal detector, and a control signal analyzer. The backward signal generator and the backward signal detector may be replaced with an echo canceller.
