    Abstract: A light channeling layer disposed adjacent to the bottom substrate of a transflective display to enhance the back-lighting efficiency. The transflective display has a transmissive area and a reflective area and the transmissive area has a transmission electrode. The light channeling layer comprises a plurality of light conduits, each of which is disposed behind a transmission electrode. The light conduit has a first aperture and a second aperture greater than the first aperture and the first aperture is positioned adjacent to the transmission electrode and a second aperture adjacent to the back substrate, so that light from a back-light source that enters into the light conduct through the second aperture is channeled to the transmission electrode through the first aperture.

    Abstract: A pixel device of a transflective-type LCD comprises an upper panel, a lower panel, a liquid crystal layer, and a liquid crystal film. The lower panel is assembled beneath the upper panel, and an upper surface of the lower panel is divided into a reflective region and a naked transmission region. The liquid crystal layer is interposed between the upper panel and the lower panel. The liquid crystal film is positioned above the liquid crystal layer to compensate possible retardation resulted from the liquid crystal layer.

    Abstract: A heat dissipating assembly (1) includes a plurality of fins (10), three heat pipes (20), and a base (30). Each fin defines three through holes (11) across a middle portion thereof. A plurality of dome-shaped protruding portions (14) is formed in each fin. The protruding portions are arranged in a regular array of offset rows. Adjacent protruding portions in any row protrude from front and rear faces of the fin in a regular alternating configuration. One end of each heat pipe is respectively inserted into the corresponding through holes of the fins, and an opposite end of each heat pipe is attached in the base. The base is attached on an electronic device, for absorbing heat produced by the electronic device. The protruding portions increase a heat dissipating surface area of the fins, and deflect airflow that passes across the fins in a direction parallel to the fins.

    Abstract: A driving method for a bistable display device includes setting a first duration and a second duration according to a frame period; applying a first voltage to a light valve layer in the first duration according to display data, so as to transform the light valve layer from a first state to a second state; and applying a second voltage in the second duration to the light valve layer in the second duration for the light valve layer to transform to the first state. Since the light valve layer of the bistable display device is already at the first state prior to displaying the next image, the light valve layer is not required to reset when switching displayed images, hence reducing the total number of frames required to display each image.

    Abstract: An electrowetting display device includes an electrowetting display panel and an illumination unit. The electrowetting display panel includes two or more different optical color-converting liquid layers and a plurality of light-shielding liquid layers. In one embodiment, the pixel structure includes a scan line formed on a substrate and a data line formed over the substrate defining a pixel area, a switch formed inside the pixel area on the substrate, a shielding electrode formed over the switch, a plane organic layer formed over the date line and the pixel area and having no overlapping with the shielding electrode, and a pixel electrode having a first portion and a second portion extending from the first portion, and formed over the shielding electrode and the plane organic layer in the pixel area, wherein the first portion is overlapped with the shielding electrode so as to define a storage capacitor therebetween, and the second portion overlays the plane organic layer and has no overlapping with the data line.
