Abstract:
A method for making an integrated circuit includes forming spaced-apart trenches on a surface of a single crystal silicon substrate, lining the trenches with a silicon oxide layer, forming a first polysilicon layer over the silicon oxide layer, forming a second polysilicon layer over the first polysilicon layer, and removing a thickness of the single crystal silicon substrate to expose tubs of single crystal silicon in the second polysilicon layer.
Abstract:
A process for fabricating a multi-layer interconnect in which an organic low-k material is formed over a topographic substrate. An insulator such as silicon dioxide is formed over the organic low-k material. The insulator is planarized. Contact holes or vias are then etched in the two-layer stack.
Abstract:
The message waiting notification update system is operable in the serving Mobile Switching Center and, upon receipt of a message-waiting acknowledgement from the mobile subscriber station, updates the local copy of the subscriber's data in the Visited Location Register and forwards this information to the subscribers Home Location Register. The Home Location Register stores this received data for use when the next successive Registration Notification is received from a new serving Mobile Switching Center or in response to the subscriber initiating a local access. When the serving Mobile Switching Center receives a Registration Notification message return result from the subscriber's Home Location Register and the message waiting notification count is the same as the count previously sent to the Home Location Register, the serving Mobile Switching Center does not have to transmit a message waiting notification over the forward control channel to the mobile subscriber station.
Abstract:
An arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) with improved transmission efficiency includes an input PnullM star coupler, an output MnullQ star coupler, and M waveguides of unequal length connecting the input and output star couplers. A novel method used to determine the optimum position of the ports ensures that the maximum frequency deviation between the signal frequency and the center of the corresponding transmission passband is minimal for all possible connections among input and output ports.
Abstract:
Geographic coordinates of user equipment of a paged party are determined either by communicating with a GPS receiver associated with the user equipment of the paged party or by cellular triangulation. The geographic coordinates may be converted into an associated common location description. For example the common location description is a city name, an address, or a distance and direction from a landmark. The geographic coordinates, common location description, or an abbreviation thereof, is transmitted to user equipment of a paging party. Using this service, parents may verify the location of their children. Security agencies or delivery services may verify and/or log the location of their personnel.
Abstract:
A universal remote control (10) is provided for wireless remote control of one or more devices (D1 . . . Dn) equipped for remote control by respective original remote controls having visual appearances different from one another. The universal remote control (10) includes: a memory (40) that stores one or more descriptions associated with one or more original remote controls that are selectively emulated by the universal remote control (10), the descriptions including information describing the visual appearances of the original remote controls that the descriptions are associated with; and, a graphical user interface (20) upon which is displayed a representation of one of the original remote controls selected for emulation by the universal remote control (10), the representation having a visual appearance substantially the same as the original remote control being emulated.
Abstract:
A system for, and method of, determining a physical topology of a network having multiple subnets. In one embodiment, the system includes: (1) a skeleton path initializer that uses addressing information from elements in the network to develop a collection of skeleton paths of direct physical connections between labeled ones of the elements, the skeleton paths traversing multiple of the subnets and (2) a skeleton path refiner, coupled to the skeleton path initializer, that refines the collection by inferring, from the direct physical connections and path constraints derived therefrom, other physical connections in the skeleton paths involving unlabeled ones of the elements.
Abstract:
A method of solvating metal ions in an aromatic organic liquid. The method includes adding an ammonium salt having an organic acid reagent to the aromatic organic liquid. The organic acid reagent comprises a carboxylate having eight (8) or less carbon atoms. Thereafter, an aqueous solution comprising a metal salt is added to the aromatic organic liquid comprising the ammonium salt and the organic acid reagent. As a result, at least 10% by weight of metal ions is solvated in the aromatic organic liquid.
Abstract:
Optical fiber bend limiter that prevents contaminates from entering an optical fiber closure is described. The optical fiber bend limiter has an arcuate portion having a bend radius for limiting a minimum bend of an optical fiber. The bend limiter has a central recess for inserting a wall of an optical closure therein and limiting the minimum bend radius of an optical fiber. The bend limiter also includes peripheral recesses. When desired, the bend limiter is secured to a wall of the optical fiber closure via the peripheral recesses thereby closing the aperture and protecting the optical fibers from contaminants.
Abstract:
Optical fiber closure having a biased door adapted to cover a portion of an aperture not occupied by an optical fiber. The optical fiber closure has a wall. The wall has an aperture defined therein for receiving optical fibers. The wall also has a biased door adapted to cover a portion of the aperture not occupied by optical fibers.
