Abstract:
The present invention provides an apparatus comprising a substrate and first and second disks. The disks are rotatably located over the substrate, each disk having an outer circumference with teeth thereon. The first disk is positioned to interleave one or more of its teeth with the teeth of the second disk. The substrate includes a channel with an exit port located near the teeth of one of the disks. Another apparatus comprises at least one disk rotatably located over a substrate and in a well of the substrate, the disk having an outer circumference with teeth thereon. The disk is positioned to provide a maximum distance of less than about 10 microns between each one the teeth and a nearest wall defining the well. The substrate includes a channel with an exit port located near the teeth of the disk.
Abstract:
Geographic coordinates of user equipment of a calling party are determined either by communicating with a GPS receiver associated with the user equipment of the calling party or by cellular triangulation. The geographic coordinates may be converted into an associated common location description. For example the common location description is a city name, an address, or a distance and direction from a landmark. The common location description, or an abbreviation thereof, is transmitted to user equipment of a called party. Using this service, parents may verify the location of their children. Security agencies or delivery services may verify and/or log the location of their personnel.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for determining the dispersion characteristics of minimum phase filters using substantially only an amplitude response of a minimum phase filter under test includes fitting an amplitude spectrum of the minimum phase filter with a substantially straight line curve, and determining the dispersion characteristics of the minimum phase filter using the straight line curve and the relationships determined by the inventors. Various inventive equations determined by the inventors representative of the relationship between an amplitude response of a minimum phase filter and the dispersion characteristics of the minimum phase filter are used for determining the dispersion characteristics of the minimum phase filter.
Abstract:
A switching method is provided having improved accuracy in monitoring a network to determine when to switch. The method collects and stores a plurality of bit error rate (BER) values. The BER values are analyzed using a BER hysterisis algorithm to check BER degradation. Thereafter, the method switches a transmission port when the degradation exceeds a predetermined BER threshold level for a predetermined period of time. In another embodiment, a feature which transmits a switch polling signal for a predetermined duration is used with the above switching method.
Abstract:
A method providing communication between an MSC and a mobile terminal in a wireless communications system including using the 10 digit MIN identifier for identifying the mobile terminal in all messages requiring a mobile terminal identifier sent from the MSC via a base station to the mobile terminal and using the 15 digit MIN-based IMSI identifier for identifying the mobile terminal in all messages requiring a mobile terminal identifier sent from the mobile terminal via the base station to the MSC. The method can also include deploying the use of 15 digit MIN-based IMSI identifiers in one MSC at a time. The invention also includes a system for providing mobile terminal identification information in a wireless system. The system includes a mobile terminal capable of receiving and responding to messages using a 10 digit MIN for identifying the mobile terminal and sending messages having a MIN-based IMSI identifier for identifying the mobile terminal. The system also includes an MSC capable of receiving and processing messages from the mobile terminal having the MIN-based IMSI identifier and sending messages to the mobile terminal using the 10 digit MIN identifier.
Abstract:
A method is provided for supplying service to mobile stations (MS) (20) utilizing a wireless telecommunications network (A). Each of the MS has a home country and a home network and is programmed with an identifier comprising a number including a set of digits. Each identifier is one of two types including a first type of identifier that uniquely identifies its MS globally via the entire set of digits making up the identifier (e.g., a true International Mobile Station Identity (IMSI)) and a second type of identifier that uniquely identifies its MS within its home country via a subset of least significant digits making up the identifier (e.g., a Mobile Identification Number (MIN)-based IMSI). The method includes: obtaining the identifiers from MS entering the wireless telecommunications network during a study period; collecting a subset of most significant digits from each identifier obtained during the study period; compiling a list of digit patterns, each digit pattern in the list corresponding to one of the subsets of most significant digits collected; receiving identifiers from MS accessing the wireless telecommunications network; and, comparing the subsets of most significant digits of the received identifiers to the compiled list to determine which of the received identifiers are the first type and which are the second type of identifier.
Abstract:
An optical fiber trough includes a base member having a plurality of latches adapted to secure the optical fiber trough to an optical fiber closure. A retention member extends from the base member. The retention member includes a proximate edge supported by the base member and a distal edge. At least a portion of the distal edge is angled with respect to a plane of the base member.

In the present invention the semiconductor device includes a gate dielectric located over a substrate of a semiconductor wafer, wherein the gate dielectric includes a nitrided layer and a dielectric layer. The present invention further includes a nitrided transition region located between the dielectric layer and the nitrided layer and a gate located over the gate dielectric.
Abstract:
An apprising system and a method of apprising are set forth for use with a cellular telephone to apprise a user of the cellular telephone of a spontaneous occurrence. In one embodiment, the apprising system includes: (1) a matching subsystem that compares a location of the cellular telephone to an area associated with an occurrence and (2) an informing subsystem that notifies a user of the cellular telephone of the occurrence based on the compares.
