Abstract: A portable information handling system rotationally couples housing portions with a variable torque hinge having a first axle that rotates with a first housing portion, a second axle that rotates with a second housing portion and a synchronizing gear assembly that translates rotation between the first and second axles. Variable torque is applied by selectively engaging and disengaging a coupler gear with the synchronizing gear assembly to apply and remove an increased torque that resists housing rotation. In one embodiment, the coupler gear is an idler gear of the synchronizing gear mechanism that selectively applies and removes an increase torque of the second axle to the first axle. The coupler gear slides in response to an actuator, such as an electro-permanent magnet acting on a ferromagnetic material with high and low magnetic attraction states.

Abstract: A gate support system for the free-end of a swinging gate. The system includes a first elongated support member; a second elongated support member, a foot member carried by the second elongated support member and being vertically moveable relative to the second elongated support member between raised and lowered positions; bias means for biasing the foot member to the raised position; and a locking mechanism for locking the foot member in a desired vertical position relative to the second elongated support member. When the gate has been pivoted to a desired position, the foot member can be pushed downwardly until it rests firmly on the ground. The locking mechanism will maintain the foot member in a lowered position where it will support the weight of the free-end of the gate. A handle can be activated to release the locking mechanism and enable the foot member to move to a raised position.

Abstract: A hinge for a door anchored to a wall, the hinge including a fixed element coupled to the wall and a movable element coupled to the door. The fixed and movable elements rotate between an open position and a closed position about a first longitudinal axis. Abstract: A hinge hydraulic infinite check structure includes a paddle having at least one hydraulic aperture is rigidly fixed to a shaft. The pivot shaft is supported for pivoting movement within a case. The case includes a wall portion rigidly fixed to a cylindrically shaped inner surface and extends radially inward to the shaft. Pivoting movement of the pivot shaft forces the hydraulic fluid to move through the aperture from a first side to a second side of the paddle generating movement resistance. With the pivot shaft being stationary relative to the fluid chamber, equilibrium of fluid pressure of the hydraulic fluid at the first side and the second side of the paddle imparts a resistance to pivoting movement of the pivot shaft relative to the fluid chamber.

Abstract: A driving device for opening and closing an opening/closing body of a vehicle. The driving device comprises a nut member that moves linearly by way of rotation of a rod member and is threadably engaged with the rod member, and an engaging member that can be engaged with an engagement-receiving member provided on the rod member that is moved by way of a link arm linked to actuation of a solenoid such that rotation of the rod member can be stopped. The link arm has a mechanical structure that limits vibrations that change the vibration status of the engaging member. By using this driving device, impact noise during actuation of the driving device can be mitigated, or the pitch of the noise can be altered, so as not to discomfort passengers.
