Abstract:
A scanning mechanism 6 moves an optical head 5 relative to a mount plate 2 in a scan direction, and light emitting diodes 3A, 3B mounted on the optical head 5 emit their respective beams of measurement light along the scan direction and onto two color regions TP3, TP3, respectively, of an immunochromatographic test strip mounted on the mount plate 2. Photodiodes 4A, 4B mounted on the optical head 5 receive respective beams of reflected light from the two color regions TP3, TP3 perpendicularly to colored lines on the immunochromatographic test strip, thereby implementing simultaneous measurement of color intensities of the colored lines formed in the two color regions TP3, TP3 of the immunochromatographic test strip.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to the use of a light absorbing wall material to eliminate stray light paths in light-guiding structures, such as those used for HPLC absorbance detection. More specifically, the present invention relates to the use of carbon-doped Teflon® AF, or “black Teflon® AF,” for all or part of the walls of a light-guiding flowcell adapted for use in HPLC absorbance detection.
Abstract:
An electric rotating machine capable of lowering the temperature of a rotor disposed, wherein at least one of closed ventilation loops for cooling is formed, one of the loops constituting a ventilation passage communicating with an exhaust side through a heat source of the end of the generator to a cooler, thereby to supply cooling wind to the rotor after it passes through the cooler.
Abstract:
Described and claimed is an interchangeable tip-open cell fluorometer comprising a housing and a fluorometric probe tip interchangeably connected to the housing, the probe tip including a probe tip housing defining an open cell and enclosing a probe optical arrangement, the probe optical arrangement including an excitation source and a fluorescence detector wherein the excitation source is aimed directly into the fluorescence detector such that a sample can be fluorometrically detected. Also claimed is a method of using this interchangeable tip-open cell fluorometer for detecting fluorescent signals emitted by one or more fluorophores from samples from a natural or industrial water system. The fluorometer, when coupled with a controller, is capable of monitoring and optionally controlling an industrial process or system.

Abstract:
Light shielding portions are provided along a flow path on a top surface of a plate substrate at both sides, that is, an X1 side (right side) and an X2 side (left side) of the flow path. Then, when a fluorescent intensity is measured to determine whether a test sample reacts or not, a small amount of light emitted from the plate substrate and a lid body is also properly shielded by the light shielding portions, so that the stability of measuring the fluorescent intensity with respect to beads arranged inside the flow path can be improved.

Abstract:
This invention relates to apparatus and methods for sensing terahertz radiation, in particular over an area, and to terahertz radiation imaging systems. A terahertz radiation sensor, the sensor comprising an optical beam input to receive an optical probe beam, a detector to modulate said probe beam responsive to terahertz radiation, and a photosensitive detector to provide an output responsive to said probe beam modulation. The sensor being configured to provide a first optical path between said optical beam input and said electro-optic detector and to provide a second optical path between said electro-optic detector and said photosensitive detector, and wherein said sensor further comprises a polarizer, said polarizer being located in both said first and said second optical paths. We further describe imaging systems for use with such a probe.
Abstract:
A measuring cell is formed of base plates joined together. A passage groove is formed on a joining surface of one base plate. Through-holes for introducing and discharging a fluid sample are formed on the other base plate, and the joining surface is provided with an optically opaque Si film as slits. Further, the joining surfaces of the base plates and the inner surface of the passage groove are covered with SiO2 films. Thus, a measuring cell having a sufficiently small passage sectional area, a high air-tightness, a chemically stable measuring chamber, and a high measuring sensitivity can be obtained.
Abstract:
A flow cell for transporting fluid in a radiant energy field includes a cell structure having an open channel, and one or more end caps having a protrusion extending therefrom, wherein the protrusion may be inserted into the open channel to create a fluid seal. In a particular embodiment, the end caps include open channels for transporting fluid and radiant energy therethrough, and the open channel in the cell structure includes an efficient radiant energy transmission lining that is spaced from the end cap protrusions, thereby forming a gap volume in the flow cell open channel, which gap volume may be calibrated such that radiant energy losses may be standardized in respective flow cells transporting fluids having various indexes of refraction.
