Abstract: A processor is to execute and retire instructions for a virtual machine. A reload register is coupled to the core is to store a reload value. A performance monitoring counter (PMC) register is coupled to the reload register and an event-based sampler operatively is coupled to the reload register and the PMC register. The event-based sampler includes circuitry to load the reload value into the PMC register and increment the PMC register after detecting each occurrence of an event of a certain type as a result of execution of the instructions. Upon detecting an occurrence of the event after the PMC register reaches a predetermined trigger value, the event-based sampler is to execute microcode to generate field data for elements within a sampling record, wherein the field data relates to a current processor state of execution, and reload the reload value from the reload register into the PMC register.

Abstract: A processor includes a memory subsystem having a first memory subunit that includes a status register and an execution engine unit coupled to the memory subsystem. The execution engine unit is to: randomly select a load operation to monitor; determine a re-order buffer identifier of the load operation; and transmit the re-order buffer identifier to the memory subsystem. Responsive to receipt of the re-order buffer identifier, the first memory subunit stores a piece of information, related to a status of the load operation, in the status register. Responsive to detection of retirement of the load operation, the first memory subunit is to store the piece of information from the status register into a particular field of a record of a memory buffer, wherein the particular field is associated with the first memory subunit.

Abstract: Systems and method are disclosed for monitoring processor performance. Embodiments described relate to differentiating function performance by input parameters. In one embodiment, a method includes configuring a counter contained in a processor to count occurrences of an event in the processor and to overflow upon the count of occurrences reaching a specified value, configuring a precise event based sampling (PEBS) handler circuit to generate and store a PEBS record into a PEBS memory buffer after at least one overflow, the PEBS record containing at least one stack entry read from a stack after the at least one overflow, enabling the PEBS handler circuit to generate and store the PEBS record after the at least one overflow, generating and storing the PEBS record into the PEBS memory buffer after the at least one overflow; and storing contents of the PEBS memory buffer to a PEBS trace file in a memory.

Abstract: Technologies for dynamically allocating resources within a self-managed node include a self-managed node to receive quality of service objective data indicative of a performance objective of one or more workloads assigned to the self-managed node. Each workload includes one or more tasks. The self-managed node is also to execute the one or more tasks to perform the one or more workloads, obtain telemetry data as the workloads are performed, determine, as a function of the telemetry data, an adjustment to the allocation of resources among the workloads to satisfy the performance objective, and apply the determined adjustment as the workloads are performed by the self-managed node. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
