Abstract: In an aspect of the invention, a process to make a nanowire array is provided. In the process, silicon is deposited onto a conductive substrate comprising an organic material and optionally a conductive layer, thus forming a silicon-containing layer. Nanoparticles are deposited on top of the silicon-containing layer. Metal is deposited on top of the nanoparticles and silicon in such a way that the metal is present and touches silicon where etching is desired and is blocked from touching silicon or not present elsewhere. The metallized substrate is contacted with an etchant aqueous solution comprising about 2 to about 49 weight percent HF and an oxidizing agent.

Abstract: Improved techniques for transferring media assets between a host computer and a media device are disclosed. The transfer of media assets between a host computer and a media device can be referred to as synchronization. According to one aspect of the invention, media assets being transferred can be formatted (e.g., rendered) in advance at the host computer and then delivered to the media device. According to another aspect of the invention, media assets can be grouped into collections and transferred on a collection basis. According to still another aspect of the invention, media assets to be transferred can be limited based on an amount of storage capacity available at the media device. According to yet another aspect of the invention, media assets of different media types can be transferred in accordance with different priorities.

Abstract: A method and product is disclosed which provides emulsion stability and filtration control to invert emulsion drilling fluids. The product comprises a blend of a carboxylic acid terminated polyamide and/or a wetting agent with a reaction product or mixture produced by the Diels-Alder reaction of dienophiles, preferably carboxylic acids, polycarboxylic acids, acid anhydrides, or combinations or mixes thereof, with a mixture of fatty acids and resin acids. The product of the invention is extremely effective, decreasing by about two-thirds the amount of emulsifier generally required to formulate an effective drilling fluid. The product of the invention also greatly reduces and in many cases eliminates the need for conventional fluid loss additives, and additionally provides electrical stability. Moreover, the product of the invention has a pour point as low as about 20 degrees Fahrenheit with minimal solvents, thereby eliminating the need to ship large amounts of inert material for use, and may be transported in a highly active state.

Abstract: A data switch includes multiple switching modules interconnected over a backplane. The data switch maintains flow integrity while path transitioning. The flow integrity can be maintained by temporarily disabling one or more of the switching modules from transmitting data units over the backplane for a flow undergoing a path transition. The disable condition is imposed when the path transition is commenced, and is lifted after the path transition is completed and an interval has passed ensuring that all data units for the flow transmitted to the backplane prior to imposing the disable condition have cleared the backplane. The backplane includes a multicast fabric and a unicast fabric, wherein flow path transitions are made from the multicast fabric to the unicast fabric upon source learning. All switching modules are temporarily disabled from transmitting data units having as a destination address an address undergoing source learning to the backplane.
