Abstract: An exercise device has a frame supporting guide links and foot support links. A cam system has a vertical control cam portion with a first and second offset vertical drive portion. Vertical control followers are pivotally connected to a vertical follower support and each has a control portion and a cam engagement portion engaging a vertical drive portion. Vertical control couplings couple the foot support links to the control portions of the vertical control followers. Pivotal motion of the guide links is decoupled from motion of the foot receiving areas along the path of travel having a vertical component of motion so that the user can achieve a foot path that is generally vertical or a blend of vertical and horizontal motion.

Abstract: An adaptive exercise device includes a frame which supports swing arms which provide for horizontal motion of associated foot links. A crank system provides for vertical motion of the foot links and is movable relative to the frame. The vertical and horizontal motions of the foot links are mechanically decoupled and may be blended to approximate a desired foot path. The movable crank system causes the foot path to correspond to a natural running action.

Abstract: An archery bow includes a cam assembly rotatably supported at a pivot axis on a limb of the bow. The cam assembly includes a primary string feed-out which operates to feed out a length of a bowstring as the bow is drawn. The cam assembly includes a control system associated with a secondary string feed-out. The control system is operative, during the time the bow is being drawn and the primary string is being fed out, to control the effective length of a secondary portion of the string such that during an initial portion of the draw of the bow, the effective length of that secondary portion decreases and so that during a subsequent portion of the draw, the effective length increases. The controller thereby operates to modify the force draw profile of the bow so as to increase the amount of energy stored therein during the initial portion of the draw.

Abstract: A hybrid motor vehicle is operated in a front-loaded electrical power mode. The motor vehicle includes a first, electrical based, propulsion system which is powered by electrical energy stored in a rechargeable battery, and a second, fuel-based propulsion system, which is powered by oxidation of a fuel. According to the method, the amount of electrical energy stored in the battery is measured, and a percentage of that measured level is selected. A distance D which the first propulsion system, operating singly, and using that stored energy, can propel the vehicle is determined. A hybrid cruising range, which is greater than the distance D is selected, and a controller controls the operation of the first and second propulsion systems, in accord with a profile, so as to power the vehicle such that when the vehicle has traveled through the hybrid cruising range, the selected percentage of electrical energy is depleted, and when the vehicle has traveled through lithe first 50% of the hybrid cruising range, over 50% of the selected percentage of electrical energy stored in the battery is depleted. Also disclosed is a controller for implementing the method.

Abstract: A hydraulic damper for use with a vehicular suspension system includes a reciprocating piston rod and piston in an inner cylinder. A piston valving means is carried by the piston and controls the flow of fluid between upper and lower chambers of the inner cylinder. A base valving assembly controls the flow of fluid from the inner cylinder to a reservoir. A slotted control plate is rotationally fixed with resepct to the piston in the lower chamber adjacent the base valving assembly. As the vehicle is steered, rotation of the inner cylinder and base valve assembly selectively aligns the slotted control plate to vary flow between the control plate and the base valve assembly, thereby providing steer-sensitive damping.

Abstract: An improved belt system for the front seat of a coupe vehicle having a front seat back forwardly pivotable to enable occupant access to the rear seat through the door opening. The seat belt has a lap belt end anchored on the floor outboard the seat and a shoulder belt end anchored on the body rearward the door opening. A lap belt positioning sleeve is associated with the lap belt end and pivotally mounted on the body for movement between a forward position routing the belt across the occupant lap and a rearward position storing the belt horizontally along the floor. The shoulder belt positioning sleeve is associated with the shoulder belt end and pivotally mounted on the body rearwardly the door opening for movement between a forward position routing the belt across the upper torso and a rearward position disposing the shoulder belt vertically along the pillar rearwardly of the door opening. A push-pull cable interconnects the sleeves to pivot one of the sleeves to either its forward or rearward position automatically and simultaneously upon movement of the other sleeve to a selected position. A second push-pull cable interconnects one of the sleeves and the vehicle door to automatically move that positioning sleeve to the forward position when the door is closed and the rearward position when the door is open. Alternatively, the second push-pull cable may interconnect the sleeve and the seat back to pivot the sleeve in response to pivoting of the seat back.
