Abstract:
A transport cart includes a cart frame with wheels. A load carrier has bottom and side walls and an end wall structure at a first end, opposite a second end. A pivot axle is arranged between the cart frame and the load carrier so the load carrier pivots about a single axis. An interfering stop structure on the cart frame and the load carrier prevents pivotal movement of the load carrier beyond a predetermined angle. The pivot axle is arranged offset relative to a center of gravity of the load carrier. A force applying device provides a pulling force on the load carrier to pivot the load carrier relative to the cart frame. An arrest mechanism may be provided to arrest pivotal movement of the load carrier in a direction opposite of the pulling force, unless the arrest mechanism is released by a user of the transport cart.
Abstract:
A method and system manages memory in a network of virtual machines, including a copy of a master virtual machine (VM) memory system, the copy accessible to a memory server. The method includes determining whether a memory page requested by a clone VM memory system is fetchable from the memory server, the clone VM memory system hosted in a host memory system; if the memory page is fetchable from the memory server, fetching the memory page from the memory server; determining whether there is sufficient space in the host memory system to load the memory page; if there is insufficient space in the host memory system, evicting a selected memory page from the host memory system; and loading the memory page into the host memory system and the clone VM memory system.
Abstract:
A hydrokinetic turbine system, including a plurality of hydrokinetic turbines is installed on a bed of a body of water. Each turbine has a shroud with a forward entrance portion and rear exit portion. The shroud includes a propeller disposed in a middle portion thereof. An inner surface of the shroud includes a plurality of rifling vanes formed therein to induce water entering the forward entrance portion to rotate in a vortex-like fashion. A plurality of pre-spin guard blades disposed adjacent the forward entrance portion also induce rotation of water and serve to provide a barrier preventing objects from passing into the forward entrance portion. A plurality of stabilizers extending from an exterior surface of the shroud that position the forward entrance portion in the direction of current flow.
Abstract:
A biofeedback stimulation device includes a user interface for providing at least one input signal. A processor generates at least one control signal responsive to the at least one input signal. Circuitry within the biofeedback stimulation device enables application of both an electric stimulation signal and a light stimulation signal to a body of an individual. The application of the electrical stimulation signal and the light stimulation signal are controlled by the at least one control signal provided by the processor.
Abstract:
A transparency of a panel of the invention is secured to an recess in a vehicle by biasing the panel toward a hole in the recess defined by an end of a flange, and fixedly mounting the panel to the flange in less than 10 minutes. In one embodiment, the transparency is secured to the recess from a position within the vehicle. In another embodiment, the panel is replaced by providing access to the hole and moving the mounting devices toward the hole to engage the flange to fixedly secure the panel over the hole. When a prior art broken transparency is replaced, the broken transparency and the structural adhesive is removed, and a panel of the invention is mounted over the hole. When an unbroken panel of the invention is to be replaced, the inner trim from the recess is removed, and the mounting devices released from the flange.
Abstract:
Liquidproof seams are formed between laminates, most preferably those having a complex textile structure on the sealing side of the laminate, where at least a portion of the complex textile in the sealing region is removed, such as by skiving, to reduce the thickness in the seam, or sealing region, prior to the creation of a durably sealed liquidproof seam.
Abstract:
A template system and column placement method which facilitates the placement of a column resulting in enhanced placement efficiencies for large scale column construction projects. In a preferred aspect of the present invention, a template for column placement can include a frame, at least one pivotal column engagement scaffold coupled to the frame and at least one docking collar extending from the pivotal column engagement scaffold and configured to secure a column to the pivotal column engagement scaffold. Additionally, a base can be provided in order to support the frame.
Abstract:
A system and method can use statistical modeling of the way that an entire application environment is running. The output from the statistical models can be used by an optimization engine to provide an optimal or near optimal configuration and operation of the application environment for nearly any workloads and conditions. After constructing the statistical models, the operation can be entirely automated and not require human intervention. In another embodiment, some human intervention may be used or desired, particularly for non-reoccurring events (e.g., significant portion of a network for the application environment shut down due to a natural disaster). The system and method can be used to respond faster (closer to real time) and potentially to implement better control than would otherwise be possible with manual control. The system and method is particularly well suited for application environments that are in a nearly constant state of flux.
Abstract:
A counterpulsation device that operates without the use of compressed air or pressurized gas includes at least one inflatable cuff that is adapted to be placed about a selected portion of the patient's body. A first conduit connects the inflatable cuff to an air transfer device so that noncompressed air can be transferred from the air transfer device to the cuff through the first conduit to inflate the cuff. A second conduit connects the cuff to the air transfer device so that air can flow through the second conduit to deflate the cuff. The system is controlled using a computer-based controller that requires a series of initialization procedures before it will operate the system. A patient profile database includes historical treatment data for each patient and is automatically updated with each counter pulsation therapy session.
Abstract:
Methods and systems of estimating usage of components within an application environment can use statistical, rather than deterministic methods that may be too intrusive or disturb a network used by the application environment. Different transaction types may have estimated usage of components within the application environment and its corresponding confidence level (that the transaction type uses that specific component) calculated and presented to a user. Asynchronous data and data routinely generated by a component may be used. The workload and utilization data may be conditioned before determining the estimated usage to smooth and filter data and determine accuracy of the correlations.
