Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention comprise reverse osmosis filters and systems comprising embedded radio frequency identification (RFID) tags for storing and retrieving data. The RFID tags can be preferably embedded under a filtration device's protective outer shell. Information can be easily stored onto and retrieved from the embedded RFID tags. The ability to easily store and retrieve data from the embedded RFID devices facilitates the creation of loading maps, monitoring, addition, and replacement of fluid filtration devices.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method for transmitting information between a device within a housing to a second device, preferably a test or monitoring unit, outside of the housing. There are numerous issues associated with transferring information from within a sealed housing to an external device. In some cases, the use of wires inside the housing may be impractical, due to internal conditions, such as fluid flow, pressure or temperature. In one embodiment, the antenna of the external RF reading device is electrically connected to the dome of the housing. In another embodiment, the device within the housing is electrically connected to a housing component. In another embodiment, the gasket is used to pass information from within the housing to an external device.

A water filter identification system for a refrigerator including a refrigeration compartment includes a manifold assembly positioned within the refrigeration compartment and operatively coupled to a water dispensing system, and a monitoring device positioned with respect to the manifold assembly. The system also includes a filter assembly including a filter housing removably mounted to the manifold assembly and at least one indicator coupled to the filter housing. The at least one indicator is in signal communication with the monitoring device for facilitating identification of the filter assembly.

A fluid treatment system is disclosed that includes a replaceable and/or serviceable fluid treatment cartridge for treating fluid passing therethrough, and a connector head configured to detachably support the fluid treatment cartridge. The cartridge includes a device for storing data related to the performance and/or identity of the cartridge, and a mechanism is provided to facilitate an exchange of data between the fluid treatment cartridge and a monitoring device configured to process the data.

A fluid filter includes a cylindrical pleated filter media disposed around a central perforated support core or self-supporting. An outer support sleeve comprising a extruded nylon, diamond-shaped mesh is stretched across the pleated media, and elastically conforms to the pleat peaks to structurally retain the pleats of the pleat peaks in fixed relation to one another. A bead of adhesive is then applied over the sleeve to fix the sleeve to the pleat peaks. End caps are disposed at opposite ends of the fluid filter.

A beverage brewing apparatus having a two chamber disposable cartridge that has fresh water in one chamber and brew ingredients in the other chamber. The cartridge fits into a cavity formed in a housing that includes a water heating system and expansion chamber. The water heating system is energized when the disposable cartage is nested in the housing. The system produces a pre-measured volume of a brewed beverage or hot liquid automatically.

Preferably, the support layer has a strand angle between 60 and 90 degrees, and a strand density sufficient to mark the element with appropriate identification indicia. End caps are disposed at opposite ends of the fluid filter. The cylindrical filter media is radially compressed through a conical tool into the outer sleeve. An inner support core or mandrel with a second conical tool is then forced into the cylindrical filter media to enlarge the media such that the outer sleeve elastically stretches and conforms to the pleat peaks.
