Abstract: Disclosed is a composition including microcapsules, which include: a core composition including at least one hydrophobic active ingredient; and a wall partially or completely surrounding the core, wherein the wall includes at least one wall material that is a reaction product of a wall-forming reaction selected from: (A) a Type A reaction including: (i) reacting an amine moiety containing material with an epoxy and optionally an isocyanate; and (ii) reacting the isocyanate and at least one polyol; (B) a Type B reaction of a hydrolyzed protein with at least one of an epoxy and an organofunctional silane, and optionally an isocyanate; and (C) a Type C reaction of an amine moiety containing material with at least one of an epoxy and an oil soluble dialdehyde, and optionally an isocyanate. A method for preparing the composition is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for generating capsules includes: a. providing in a first chamber a dispersed phase, the dispersed phase including a solution including a first solvent and a matrix-forming agent, the matrix-forming agent is a solid in its pure state and the first solvent and the matrix-forming agent are configured such that the matrix-forming agent is soluble in the first solvent; and b. providing in a second chamber a continuous phase, the continuous phase including a second solvent. The first and second chambers are fluidic connected by channel(s). The method further includes: c. guiding the dispersed phase from the first chamber through the channel(s) into the second chamber to form an emulsion or a dispersion including a plurality of droplets of the dispersed phase, in the continuous phase; and d. removing the first solvent from the droplets of the dispersed phase and solidifying the matrix-forming agent to form a capsule.

Abstract: Disclosed is an electrostatic spray drying process for encapsulating a core material, such as a volatile flavor oil, within a carrier or wall material. The process is achieved by atomizing a liquid emulsion comprising the core material and the wall material, applying an electrostatic charge at the site of atomization, and drying the atomized emulsion into an encapsulated, free-flowing powder. Applying an electrostatic charge at the site of atomization allows the spray drying to be accomplished at significantly reduced temperatures, in particular, inlet temperatures in the range of 25° C. to 110° C., and outlet temperatures in the range of 25° C. to 80° C. The low drying temperatures impart improvements in the resulting encapsulated powdered product, including better retention of volatile flavor components, a flavor profile comparable to that of the starting liquid formulation, and better hydration and dissolution in water-based applications.

The preparation method for the self-healing concrete comprises steps of: weighing appropriate amounts of cement, sand, water and the above microcapsules, with each cubic meter of concrete containing 0.05 to 0.08 cubic meter of the microcapsules; stirring the cement, sand and microcapsules until uniformly dispersed to obtain a mixture; and pouring the water into the mixture, and stirring uniformly.
