An acid-gas absorbing tablet including in relatively sufficient proportions an adsorbent which may be activated carbon or silica gel or a mixture thereof, potassium carbonate, polyvinylpyrrolidinone, and potassium bicarbonate. A method of absorbing acid gases from a confined environment utilizing the above tablet by inserting it into the confined environment.

The invention has for its object to provide a preparation method for preparing an anion-exchangeable LDH by decarbonation of a carbonate ion type LDH, which makes sure de carbonation is implemented with safety in a continuous manner while crystal shape, crystal structure and crystallinity are kept intact.The invention provides a preparation method for preparing an anion-exchangeable, layered double hydroxide wherein a carbonate ion type layered double hydroxide (LDH) having a composition represented by a general formula: QxR(OH)z(CO32−)0.5-y/2(X−)y.nH2O where x is indicative of a numeral range of 1.8≦x≦4.2; z is indicative of 2(x+1); y is indicative of a minimum value of at least 0 that increases to less than 1 when anions (X−) remain or a part of anions is introduced; Q is a divalent metal ion; R is a trivalent metal ion; and n is 2±2 is used as a starting material, and y in said general formula increases to a maximum of 1 by substitution of a minus monovalent anion (X−1) at a carbonate ion site thereby implementing substitution, characterized in that the starting material is dispersed in an aqueous solution mixed with a salt containing minus monovalent anions (X−) in an amount enough for substitution at the carbonate ion site while said aqueous solution is kept at a pH (hydrogen ion exponent) of greater than 4 to less than 7.

The invention relates to a packing material for a micro-adsorption column for drying and/or purification of dissolved organic or biological analytes, such as toxins, antibiotics, vitamins, hormones, pesticides and similar, containing at least one drying agent which contains magnesium sulphate and at least one further drying agent selected from the group comprising aluminium oxide, calcium chloride, calcium hydride, calcium oxide, calcium sulphate, potassium hydride, silica gel, copper sulphate, magnesium oxide, magnesium perchlorate, molecular sieves, sodium hydroxide, phosphorus pentoxide, sulphuric acid on silica, phosphorus pentoxide on silica and 0.5 to 90 wt. % of a naturally-occurring or synthetic support with large internal surface such as zeolite, diatomic earths, bentonite, silicon dioxide or similar. The invention further relates to a micro-adsorption column packed with the above and use thereof.

Methods and systems for reducing emissions of particulate matter from a gaseous stream are provided. The subject systems include a catalyst that reduces the amount of particulate matter emissions in the gaseous stream. Embodiments of the subject systems may also reduce the amount of particulate matter precursor emissions in the gaseous stream. In some cases, the subject systems and methods include a sorber that facilitates the reduction in particulate matter and particulate matter precursors in the gaseous stream. The subject methods and systems find use in a variety of applications where it is desired to reduce particulate matter emissions from a gaseous stream.

Base treated aluminas exhibit improved CO2 capacity over untreated aluminas. Base treated aluminas prepared by physically mixing alumina and base during forming have (1) a higher surface area, (2) less hydrothermal aging, (3) improved CO2 capacity and (4) lower cost than base treated aluminas produced by aqueous impregnation. A method for removing at least CO2 and water from a gas stream includes providing an adsorbent formed from a process comprising physically mixing activated alumina solids and solid salts of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals or ammonium ion; and contacting the gas stream with the adsorbent.

The present invention relates to a process for reducing the amount of organic components in water, wherein a surface-reacted naturalcalcium carbonate and a hydrophobic adsorbent, selected from the group consisting of talc, hydrophobised calcium carbonate, hydrophobised bentonite, hydrophobised kaolinite, hydrophobised glass, or any mixture thereof, are brought into contact with the water to be purified, the surface-reacted natural calcium carbonate being the reaction product of a naturalcalcium carbonate with an acid and carbon dioxide, which is formed in situ by the acid treatment and/or supplied externally, and the surface-reacted natural calcium carbonate being prepared as an aqueous suspension having a pH of greater than 6.0, measured at 20° C.

The present invention relates to the removal of endocrine disrupting compounds from an aqueous medium by adding surface-reacted natural calcium carbonate or an aqueous suspension comprising surface-reacted calcium carbonate and having a pH greater than 6.0 measured at 20° C., to the medium, wherein the surface-reacted calcium carbonate is a reaction product of natural calcium carbonate with carbon dioxide and one or more acids, the use of the surface-reacted natural calcium carbonate for the removal of endocrine disrupting compounds, as well as to a combination of a surface-reacted natural calcium carbonate and activated carbon for the removal of endocrine disrupting compounds.

The invention relates to a desiccant based on clay-bound zeolite which is characterized in that it comprises hygroscopic salt and optionally further conventional additives. Preferably, it is present in the form of granules, the hygroscopic salt being arranged in the pores of the granular particles. Furthermore the invention relates to a process for the preparation of the desiccant as well as its use, in particular in insulating glass windows and spacers for insulating glass windows.
