Abstract:
A high performance ballistic grease is used in ammunition and a lubricating process to protect the barrel of a weapon from corrosion and overheating. The ballistic grease, ammunition, and process improve the structural integrity and accuracy of the weapon and are economical, nontoxic, effective, and safe. The preferred ballistic lubricating grease comprises a polyalphaolefin base oil, an amorphous silicon dioxide thickener, and a disodium octaborate tetrahydrate additive.
Abstract:
A metal working water-soluble lubricant composition comprising a water-soluble polymer compound whose counter anion is acidic phosphorus-containing compound or boric acid is disclosed. The water-soluble polymer compound is selected from the group consisting of cationic or amphoteric addition polymers, ring-opened polymers, polycondensation products and salts or quaternary ammonium salts of natural polymer derivatives having at least one basic or cationic nitrogen atom in one molecule thereof with a molecular weight of 1,000 to 10,000,000.The composition has a load resistance equal to or higher than known liquid lubricants which contain mineral oils, beef tallow etc., and shows an excellent lubricating performance when applied to a metal working surface.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprised of (A) fatty acid, (B) polytetrafluoroethylene fluorocarbon resin powder (C) pyrogenic amorphous silica powder and (D) carrier. The lubricant is prescribed for use with a pneumatic tire and wheel assembly containing a run-flat device. The lubricant is contemplated as a component in such an assembly.
Abstract:
This saw chain lubricant is composed essentially of water and a water-soluble antifreeze agent, as main constituents, and of corrosion inhibitors, wear inhibitors and adhesion promoters in a quantity which is effective in each case, the adhesion promoter being a water-soluble polyethylene glycol and/or a water-soluble acrylamide copolymer which contains sulfonic acid groups, the molecular weight of each being at least 500,000. In combination with this adhesion promoter, which is present in an amount of 0.05 to 1% by weight, the lubricant contains 5 to 50% by weight of a water-soluble polyethylene oxide/polypropylene oxide adduct having a viscosity of at least 300 mPa.s at 50.degree. C., as a special lubricant, percentages by weight relating in each case to the weight of the agent.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a cutting fluid for machining fissionable material. The cutting fluid is formed of glycol, water and boron compound in an adequate concentration for effective neutron attenuation so as to inhibit criticality incidents during machining.
Abstract:
A friction material member particularly useful in high load and temperature applications and a method for making the same are disclosed. The friction material member is made by preparing a mixture of sinterable metal particles, carbonaceous material, friction enhancers and curable polymeric resin; the mixture comprising at least about 50 percent by weight of metal particles and sufficient resin to coat and bond the metal particles, carbonaceous material and friction enhancers. The mixture is molded and the resin cured to form a piece in a solid preformed shape corresponding to the shape of the mold. Thereafter, the preformed piece is heated in a substantially oxygen free atmosphere for a time and at temperatures and pressures sufficient to fuse at least a portion of the metal particles into a sintered metal matrix. The preformed piece may be sintered to a metal backing plate during the heating step, or may be welded, brazed or soldered to the plate after heating. The resulting product may be classified as a hybrid friction material, i.e., being a cross between semi-metallic and sintered full metallic friction materials.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an alkali-metal borate containing lubricant which also contains a phosphate, monothiophosphate and dithiophosphate in a critical ratio.
Abstract:
This invention relates to organosiloxanes which have SiC-bonded ester groups and contain at least one unit of the general formula: ##EQU1## is which R represents the same or different monovalent hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 12 carbons atoms, which are free of aliphatic unsaturation and which may contain one ether oxygen atom; R' represents hydrogen or a methyl group (CH.sub.3) and a is O, 1 or 2. These organosiloxanes can be prepared by hydrolyzing or co-hydrolyzing silanes of the general formula:ROOCCH.sub.2 CH(COOR)CH.sub.2 CHR'CH.sub.2 Si(CH.sub.3).sub.a X.sub.3-a'where R, R' and a are the same as above and X represents the same or different hydrolyzable atoms or groups. Also, they may be prepared by the addition of a diester of allyl succinic acid and/or methallyl succinic acid to an organosiloxane containing Si-bonded hydrogen. These new organosiloxanes may be used as lubricants for inorganic and organic fibers, metal surfaces and as hydraulic fluids.
Abstract:
A damping agent for damping mechanical and/or acoustical vibrations. The agent includes a fluid phase of a polyglycol, silicone oil, mineral oil, and/or a saturated aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid ester having graphite dispersed therein. The graphite is dispersed by means of a wetting agent. Anti-oxidants and an agent to stabilize the structural viscosity of the damping agent may also be included.
