Abstract:
A storage system continues its operation to reduce the influence on a wide link by abnormal physical wiring and so as not to lose the redundancy of the system. At least one physical wiring line is selected from among two or more physical wiring lines, the selected physical wiring line is invalidated, the presence of an abnormal transmission line generation is confirmed in the data transfer that uses physical wiring line other than the invalidated physical wiring line, and when the abnormal transmission line is confirmed, the selected physical wiring line is recognized normal wiring line.
Abstract:
A disk array apparatus improves scalability, performance such as data transfer between different kinds of I/Fs, and maintainability and reliability about boards/PKs configuring the DKC and about a DKC configuration obtained by interconnecting them. The DKC in the disk array apparatus is configured by interconnecting mix PKs each including a base PK and a functional PK which is hierarchically connected to the base PK and on which individually separate functions are mounted. The base PK coexists with and is connectable to a plurality of different I/F-PKs, and includes an intra-package interconnection network for communicating between the functional PKs and with the DKC, and further has a processor interconnection network. The DKC performs a data transfer processing by using the functional PK and the base PK.
Abstract:
In the computer system including a host computer and a storage system, the storage system includes a physical disk and a disk controller, and provides a storage area of the physical disk as at least one logical unit. The processor obtains, at a first time point and a second time point different from the first time point, a relation between a logical path and a component through which the logical path passes, stores, as logical path connection information, the relations obtained at the first time point and the second time point, refers to the logical path connection information to compare the logical paths existing at the first time point and the logical paths existing at the second time point with each other, and specifies the logical path which does not exist at the second time point among the logical paths existing at the first time point.A1
Abstract:
A system and method enables a file server, to support multi path input/output operations for Fibre Channel devices. Upon each Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop initialization event generated, the system and method updates a path and device instance to track multiple paths to a given device. While the file server is attempting input/output operations, the failure of a given path can be corrected by the use of another path associated with a given device. The data structures generated by the low levels of the storage operating system are exposed for use by upper level services for routing a storage device identification purposes.

Abstract:
A system for communicating between two devices in a network in which a semi-persistent tunnel is established between the two devices in advance of data communication. The semi-persistent tunnel includes resources that are pre-allocated in a first device at a first end of the communication link by a second device at the second end of the communication link. The first and second devices implement a plurality of processes for handling data transfer operations. Preferably, the semi-persistent tunnel also includes resources that are pre-allocated in a device at the second end of the communication link by the device at the first end of the communication link to allow bi-directional communication. Data transfer operations transmitted through the tunnel include an identification of specific resources of the pre-allocated resources that are to handle the data transfer operation. Data transfer operations also include a vector identifying a particular process among the plurality of processes that implement the data transfer operation.
Abstract:
The disk controller has a plurality of channel control units, a plurality of cache memories, a plurality of disk control units, and a plurality of internal switch units. Each channel control unit or disk control unit sends to one of the cache memory units a request packet requesting execution of processing. The cache memory unit sends a response packet in response to the received request packet. Each internal switch unit monitors the request packet sent from the channel control unit or disk control unit, and judges whether or not the response packet to the request packet has passed through the internal switch unit within a first given time period since the passage of the request packet. In the case where the response packet has not passed through the internal switch unit within the first given time period, the internal switch unit sends a failure notification.
Abstract:
An electronics apparatus comprises an electronic device having at least first and second ports in communication with respective first and second communication paths by each of which communications can be made with the electronic device. The electronics apparatus comprises a management device arranged to collect information concerning the performance of the first and second ports and to apply a decision threshold to said information to decide whether or not each port has failed. If said decision is that the first port has failed, the management device is arranged to disable communication over the first communication path and to adjust the decision threshold for the second port.
Abstract:
A SAN connectivity advisor analyzes the physical connections of a physical fabric, identifies logical connections based on the physical connections and connectivity information, and applies a set of connectivity rules indicative of good or mandatory SAN connection practices. The connectivity advisor generates a report indicative of connections that may need or benefit from modification, typically an error message for each suspect connection found. The connectivity advisor applies the rules to each physical and logical connection to qualify the connection according to the rules, thus reflecting the actual configuration at the port-to-port connection level, rather than the conventional device-to-device level. Further, the connectivity advisor does not require an interoperability matrix or other database query of device interoperability. The generated results indicate suggested (warning) or mandatory (inoperative) actions for remedying particular connection anomalies, and in this manner, apply a consistent set of aggregated rules to each physical and logical SAN connection.
Abstract:
The storage system includes disk control clusters. Each cluster has channel IF units, disk IF units and local shared memory units. The channel IF units, disk IF units and local shared memory units in the plurality of disk control clusters are connected to each other across the disk control clusters by interconnection, global information control unit for storing management information about the disk control clusters is connected to the interconnection. Host computers and the channel IF units of the disk control clusters are connected via front-end switch for storing copy of the management information. Since the front-end switch reflects the contents of the copy of the management information on routing table, an access request from the host computer can be sent to a suitable disk control cluster.
