This invention relates to a denture adhesive powder composition having extended holding power and markedly increased adhesion properties which comprises an adhesive amount of an inorganic salt of a C1 to C4 alkyl vinyl ether/maleic acid polymer wherein 50-90% of the acid moieties of the polymer are in the form of a metal salt and 50-1000 ppm of a mixture containing 30-70 wt. % neutralized or unneutralized ethylenediamine- tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and 70-30 wt. % of an organic, hydroxylated antioxidant and free radical scavenger, said composition in solution with water having a pH above 5.5 and to the method for the preparation of said composition.
Abstract:
A rheology modifier for use in aqueous or alcoholic compositions includes an aqueous two-phase polymeric composition of by weight, 5-75 % of (a) a water-soluble polymer having (b) in situ-formed, substantially water-insoluble resinous particles of said polymer substantially uniformly dispersed therein, and (c) 25-95 % of water.
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention there is provided an oil-in-water emulsion sunscreen composition comprising (a) a UV active, (b) a first emulsifier having an HLB value less than 5 and (c) optionally a second emulsifier having an HLB value greater than 5 present in an amount of less than 0.2% w/w of the composition. The oil-in-water sunscreen composition is characterized by the absence of an emulsifiable polymer and is capable of providing little to no whitening when applied to wet skin.
Abstract:
[Problem] The object is to obtain cosmetics which do not show primary skin irritation or sensitization, and do not impart any unpleasant sensation such as sharp pain or prickly sensation when employed as a cosmetic, with the lowest possible inclusion of preservative/fungicide. [Solution] Antimicrobial low-irritant cosmetics characterized in that they contain one or two or more tropolone derivative(s) and one or two or more polyhydric alcohol(s) in quantities which have an anti-microbial effect and low skin irritancy.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to bioactive ingredients that include isolated bioactive fractions derived from cell juice of fresh biomass of a feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) plant. The bioactive fractions are either free of or substantially free of α-unsaturated γ-lactones (e.g., parthenolide). Further, the bioactive fractions have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. The present invention also relates to a method for isolating a bioactive fraction that is derived from cell juice of fresh biomass of a feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) plant and that is at least substantially free of α-unsaturated γ-lactones (e.g., parthenolide). The present invention also relates to a method for preparing a stabilized cell juice serum fraction and a stabilized concentrated cell juice serum fraction that are free of α-unsaturated γ-lactones (e.g., parthenolide). The present invention also relates to a bioactive composition that includes a mixture of one or more of the isolated bioactive fractions of the present invention.
Abstract:
A bioactive composition and method of using the composition is provided having anti-aging, antioxidant and/or free radical scavenging properties.
Abstract:
Provided are multifunctional polymers comprising at least one anhydride repeating unit with at least one pseudo-cationic moiety graft and at least one hydrophobic graft. The grafting functionalizations can occur before, during, or after polymerizing the monomer(s). The anhydride employed may be partially or fully opened to provide amic acids, carboxylic acids, carboxylic acidic salts, imides, esters, and mixtures thereof. The polymers also may comprise other repeating units, including, but not limited to, alpha-olefins. In one embodiment the polymers exhibit antimicrobial activity, and can be employed in a wide variety of compositions, including those where antimicrobial activity is useful. A method of providing microbial activity also is provided.
Abstract:
Methods of protecting skin from damage due to cold thermal stress are disclosed. The methods include topically applying a composition that includes an Artemia salina extract from rehydrated Artemia salina cysts to skin at risk of damage from thermal stress, particularly from cold thermal stress or repeated temperature variations. The composition includes a physiologically acceptable medium for delivery of the Artemia salina extract.
