Abstract: Method and systems for storing and transporting a plurality of storage bins to and from an upper and a lower location of a three dimensional storage grid, which is constructed by columns interconnected by top rails. The system includes a movable continuous chain running from the upper location to the lower location of said storage grid. The chain may have compartments fitted for holding the bins. Robot vehicles are running on the upper location of the storage grid. These are adapted for loading and unloading bins 4 from the compartments in the chain. A control system is configured for controlling loading and unloading of the bins from the compartments in the chain.

Abstract: The invention concerns a remotely operated vehicle assembly for picking up storage bins from a storage system and a method for change of vehicle direction. The vehicle assembly comprises a vehicle body displaying a cavity being suitable for receiving a storage bin stored within the storage system, a vehicle lifting device being connected at least indirectly to the vehicle body and suitable for lifting the storage bin into the cavity, a displacement arrangement comprising inter alia a displacement motor situated above the cavity which is configured to at least provide the power that is necessary in order to displace one or both of the first set of vehicle rolling means and the second set of vehicle rolling means between a displaced state where the relevant vehicle rolling means is displaced away from the underlying storage system during use, and a non-displaced state where the relevant vehicle rolling means is in contact with the underlying storage system during use, and driving means coupled to the displacement arrangement. The driving means further comprises a first set of vehicle rolling means connected to the vehicle body allowing movement of the vehicle along a first direction (X) within the storage system during use and a second set of vehicle rolling means connected to the vehicle body allowing movement of the vehicle along a second direction (Y) in the storage system during use, wherein the second direction (Y) is perpendicular to the first direction (X).

Abstract: An automated storage and retrieval system includes a plurality of storage container handling vehicles. Each vehicle includes a vehicle body, a thereto connected wheel assembly configured to guide the vehicle along the track system, a container picking device for releasably attaching to a storage container, which include one or more arms. The configuration of the container picking device is such that it is movable between a first lifting position enabling the container picking device to lift at least one storage container from a position beyond a horizontal extent of the vehicle body and a second transport position enabling the container picking device to hold the at least one storage container at least partly within the horizontal extent of the vehicle body and above the vehicle body.

Abstract: An autonomous grid storage system (1) arranged in a warehouse space (12). The autonomous grid storage system is divided within the warehouse space, for example on a single floor of said space, into a plurality of sub grids (10a/10b) separated by fire walls (18). One or more bridges (14) pass through openings in the fire wall to allow bin handling vehicles (210/301) to traverse between the sub grids. The openings (20) are provided with closable fire door (22).

Abstract: A container handling vehicle includes a lower part and an upper part. The lower part includes a width and a length that form a vehicle footprint of the container handling vehicle; and a storage space configured to accommodate a storage container. The lower part includes a first set of wheels oriented in a first vertical plane and a second set of wheels oriented in a second vertical plane orthogonal to the first vertical plane. The lower part includes a first set of vertical side walls that are co-planar to the first vertical plane, and a second set of vertical side walls that are co-planar to the second vertical plane. The first set of wheels, the second set of wheels, the first set of vertical side walls, and the second set of vertical side walls are arranged such that the lower part of the container handling vehicle has a cuboid shape. The upper part is disposed vertically above the lower part, and includes a protruding section and a recessed section. The protruding section is configured to extend beyond the lower part. The recessed section has a shape complimentary to the protruding section such that the recessed section is configured to receive other protruding sections of other container handling vehicles.

Abstract: A storage system includes a framework structure featuring multiple storage columns in which storage containers are stored stacked on top of one another in vertical stacks, and at least one of the storage columns includes a cover and a pair of cover interaction elements. The cover includes a horizontal cover plate, having a periphery that can be accommodated within an inner periphery of the storage column, and at least two cover holding assemblies arranged at opposite sides of the cover plate. The cover interaction elements are arranged each at opposite sides of the inner periphery of the storage column. Each of the cover holding assemblies includes a stop and an actuator portion, and is pivotably connected relative to the cover plate such that the stop is moved in a horizontal direction outwardly beyond the inner periphery of the storage column, from a first position to a second position, when the actuator portion is deflected inwardly of the inner periphery of the storage column by interaction with a corresponding cover interaction element during lowering of the cover relative to the storage column. The stop is biased towards the first position and arranged to hold the cover at a predetermined level by interaction with a ledge at the inner periphery of the storage column when in the second position.

Abstract: A storage container, which is for an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS), is configured to be stacked in a stack of storage containers where an underlying storage container supports the storage container(s) positioned above. The storage container is adapted to be lifted by grippers on a lifting device such that the storage container can be lifted from above. The storage container includes a base, four sides, and four corner posts. The four sides are each hingedly connected to an edge of the base. The four corner posts are each configured to interconnect a pair of adjacent sides to each other in a horizontal direction when the sides are positioned substantially 90 degrees relative the base and relative each other.
