In order to accomplish efficient communication of data between a base station and a plurality of mobile terminals, particular orthogonal codes are transmitted from the mobile stations to the base station as alert signals indicating the presence of data to be transmitted. The base station checks whether particular orthogonal codes are contained in the alert signals, and when the particular orthogonal codes are detected in the alert signals, information representing the detected orthogonal codes and the schedules for transmitting the data from the mobile terminals to the base station are transmitted from the base station to the mobile terminals as an alert response to the alert signals. When the information representing the orthogonal codes used for the alert signals are contained in the alert response transmitted from the base station to the mobile terminals, the data waiting to be transmitted is transmitted from the mobile terminals to the base station according the data transmission schedules in the alert response.

A sealing member which is compressed by a contactless temperature sensor and a cover member of a fixing unit is provided between the sensor and the cover member. An opening portion for temperature detection is shut off from a space around the fixing unit by the sealing member, thereby preventing the air from flowing from the opening portion into the fixing unit.

Transmission power relative to a propagation path having a variation in gain is controlled to increase communication channel capacity, and a data rate is controlled in accordance with the variation of the increased communication channel capacity. In order to increase the communication channel capacity, the transmission power is determined so that the sum of noise power (=received noise power/propagation path gain) converted into one at a transmitter and the transmission power becomes constant. As a result, contrary to the background art, the transmission power is controlled to be reduced when the propagation path gain decreases and to be increased when the propagation path gain increases.

There are provided scheduling and a resend control system, which match simultaneous communications using a plurality of carriers. For individual carriers to be used, the simultaneous resend control of the carriers is made by notifying channel information and a data decoding result and by managing the resend numbers. Even in case the communications are performed by using the carriers simultaneously between a base station and a terminal, the scheduling can be done to contain the resend control. It is also possible to improve the communication quality and the throughput.

When channel-coded data is transmitted in a wireless communication system, coded data is divided into a plurality of bandwidths and the signal power is distributed to the bandwidths so that the communication channel capacity is increased. In addition, the transmission power is controlled on a time basis in such a way that the average power becomes larger when the channel quality is poorer so that the quality of each code word is stabilized. Alternatively, the coding rate is controlled in such a way that the data rate is decreased when the channel quality is poorer.
