Abstract: A pump off control method comprises detecting the speed of the induction motor and an instantaneous value of secondary current of the induction motor. Down stroke time in every cycle of the pump jack is detected. An average value of instantaneous values of the secondary current of the induction motor in the down stroke time in said every cycle is calculated. An average value reference of the secondary current of the induction motor to be compared with calculated average value of the instantaneous values of the secondary current of the induction motor is set. The calculated average value of the instantaneous values of the secondary current is compared with the average value reference after the down stroke end in each cycle. An occurence of pump off is detected if the calculated average value of the instantaneous values is greater than the average value reference.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling operation of a sludge material handling system is disclosed. The sludge material handling system includes a positive displacement piston/cylinder pump, a sludge material feed system which delivers sludge material to the pump, and a sludge material disposal system which receives and disposes of sludge material from the pump. A first parameter is sensed, the first parameter bearing a known relationship to an actual volume of sludge material delivered during a pumping cycle. An output value is determined from the first parameter. A control signal is provided as a function of the output value.

During a first stroke of the piston, a speed of the piston, a temperature of the driving fluid, and a load pressure applied to the piston is monitored. Reversal of the driving force after the first stroke is controlled based on the speed, load pressure, and temperature.
