Abstract:
The invention relates to a supercontinuum light source comprising a microstructured optical fiber and a pump light source. The microstructured optical fiber comprises a core and a cladding region surrounding the core, as well as a first fiber length section, a second fiber length section and an intermediate fiber length section between said first and second fiber length sections. The first fiber length section comprises a core with a first characteristic core diameter. The second fiber length section comprises a core with a second characteristic core diameter, smaller than said first characteristic core diameter, where said second characteristic core diameter is substantially constant along said second fiber length section. The intermediate length section of the optical fiber comprises a core which is tapered from said first characteristic core diameter to said second characteristic core diameter over a tapered length.

A laser device includes a tunable laser having a laser cavity and a laser control module placed outside the laser cavity, the tunable laser being configured to generate laser light having a center frequency, the laser control module being configured to receive at least a portion of the laser light generated by the laser, to generate a control signal and to feed the control signal back to the laser for stabilizing the frequency, wherein the laser control module includes an interferometer having interferometer mirrors and a tunable interferometer length, and wherein the interferometer length is tunable by an actuator arranged between the interferometer mirrors and by thermal variation.

The invention relates to a microstructured optical fiber for generating incoherent supercontinuum light upon feeding of pump light. The microstructured optical fiber has a first section and a second section. A cross-section through the second section perpendicularly to a longitudinal axis of the fiber has a second relative size of microstructure elements and preferably a second pitch that is smaller than a blue edge pitch for the second relative size of microstructure elements. The invention also relates to an incoherent supercontinuum source comprising a microstructured optical fiber according to the invention.

The invention relates to a supercontinuum source comprising a pump light source arranged to emit pump light and a nonlinear fiber having a core arranged to receive the pump light. The supercontinuum comprises infrared wavelengths generated in the nonlinear fiber from the pump light. The nonlinear fiber has a dispersion profile comprising—a zero dispersion wavelength,—a positive peak value at a peak wavelength longer than the zero dispersion wavelength,—a minimum value of dispersion at a minimum wavelength longer than the peak wavelength. The pump light is arranged to comprise substantial energy at one or more preferred pump wavelengths which are 10 nm longer than the zero dispersion wavelength or more, The invention also relates to a supercontinuum pump source comprising a nonlinear fiber having a core comprising a fluoride glass and having a core diameter smaller than 7 μm, where the fiber has a numerical aperture of more than 0.26

A filter for filtering a broadband beam and in one embodiment a fluorescence measurement system comprising such a filter. The system includes a broadband light source arranged to provide a broadband beam, a first tunable element arranged to filter at least a portion of the broadband beam thereby providing filtered light and a control unit arranged to provide a control signal to the first tunable element. In one embodiment the first tunable element is an acousto-optic filter (AOTF) and the control signal to the AOTF is an acoustic RF signal provided by a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) arranged so the AOTF provide a high out-of-band suppression.

A photonic crystal fiber (PCF) assembly including a PCF and at least one ferrule structure. The PCF includes a core region and a cladding region and a first fiber end section with a first fiber end. The ferrule structure is mounted to the first fiber end section. The ferrule structure includes an inner ferrule arrangement and an outer ferrule arrangement surrounding the first fiber end section. The inner ferrule arrangement includes an inner ferrule front section proximally to the first fiber end and an inner ferrule rear section distally to the first fiber end, and each of the sections has an inner diameter and in at least a length thereof fully surrounds the PCF. The inner ferrule rear section is anchored in an anchor length section to the first fiber end section and the inner ferrule front section supports the first fiber end section proximally to the first fiber end.

An optical fiber having an axial direction and a cross section perpendicular to the axial direction, and a method and preform for producing such an optical fiber. The optical fiber is adapted to guide light at a wavelength λ, and includes a core region, an inner cladding region surrounding said core region, and at least one of a first type of feature including a void and a surrounding first silica material. The core, the inner cladding region and the first type of feature extends along said axial direction over at least a part of the length of the optical fiber. The first silica material has a first chlorine concentration of about 300 ppm or less.
