Abstract: The technology disclosed herein pertains to a system and method for providing the ability for a computational storage device (CSD) to understand data layout based upon automatic detection or host identification of the file system occupying a non-volatile memory express (NVMe) namespace, the method including receiving, at a CSD, a request to process a file using a computation program stored on the CSD, detecting a filesystem associated with the file within a namespace of CSD, mounting the filesystem on the CSD, interpreting a data structure associated with the file within the namespace, and reading the physical data blocks associated with the file into a computational storage memory (CSM) of the CSD.

Abstract: Systems and methods for timing recovery in DNA storage systems is described. In one embodiment, the present systems and methods include generating a unique pattern of DNA bases and use the unique pattern for a phase-locked loop (PLL) field of a data layout, generating a multidimensional mapping, configuring the multidimensional mapping to include one or more prohibited sequences of DNA bases, identifying a prohibited sequence from the multidimensional mapping and use the prohibited sequence for one or more synch-mark (SM) fields of the data layout, prohibiting a User Data field from using any of the prohibited sequences of DNA bases when converting binary data to DNA bases, identifying random insertion and/or deletion of DNA bases in the User Data field, and repairing the random insertion and/or deletion of DNA bases in the User Data field.

Abstract: Operations are monitored that involve a plurality of servers coupled to a plurality of data storage enclosures via a rack-level, storage networking fabric. The servers are operable to provide data storage services utilizing the data storage enclosures via a network. The data storage enclosures each have one or more data storage devices. The servers and the data storage enclosures are mounted within a data center rack. A failed unit determined that includes a failed one of the servers or a failed one of the data storage devices within a selected one of the data storage enclosures. A replacement is found for the failed unit within the data center rack, and the replacement is established for the failed unit within the data center rack. The establishment of the replacement involves establishing a new connection via the storage networking fabric.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for using light detection and ranging (LiDAR) to assist the visually impaired. In some embodiments, a LiDAR system is affixed to a selected finger of a user and used to emit light pulses within a field of view (FoV) before the user. Reflected pulses are detected to generate a point cloud representation of the FoV. A sensory input is provided to the user that describes the point cloud representation of the FoV. The sensory input may be haptic, auditory or some other form. In some cases, a glove is worn by the user and a separate LiDAR system is affixed to each finger portion of the glove to provide a composite scanning and detection operation. Preconfigured hand gestures by the user can be used to change the operational configuration of the system.

Abstract: An integrated circuit includes a read/write channel and a servo controller. The read/write channel is configured to: determine, in connection with a first path, respective read errors associated with N number of the data sectors; estimate respective offset positions of the N number of the data sectors; and generate a second path based, at least in part, on the respective estimated offset positions. The servo controller is configured to cause adjustment of a position of a read transducer based on the second path.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for enhancing resolution in a light detection and ranging (LiDAR) system. In some embodiments, an emitter is configured to emit a first beam of light pulses over a baseline, first field of view (FoV). Responsive to an activation signal, a controller circuit directs the emitter to concurrently interleave a second beam of light pulses over a second FoV within the first FoV. The first and second beams may be provided at different resolutions and frame rates, and may have pulses with different waveform characteristics to enable decoding using separate detection channels. The interlaced beams provide variable scanning of particular areas of interest within the baseline FoV. The second beam may be activated based on range information obtained from the first beam, or from an external sensor. Separate light sources operative at different wavelengths can be used to generate the first and second beams.

Abstract: A light detection and ranging system can have an avalanche photodiode detector positioned between at least one pair of non-avalanche photodiode detectors with each detector connected to a photon controller. The photon controlled may selectively activate one or more detectors to determine an alignment of photons emitted by one or more emitters.
