Abstract: A substantially paper-based composite container for an off-gassing product includes a paperboard can body having a substantially gas-impervious liner attached to an inner surface thereof, and a pair of substantially paper-based end closures attached to the opposite ends of the can body, each end closure defining a generally cylindrical sealing panel in contact with an inner surface of the can body. Heat-sealable materials are disposed on opposing surfaces of the sealing panel and can body. The sealing panels of the end closures are attached to the can body by heat seals. The heat seal for at least one of the end closures is discontinuous such that at least one vent channel extends through the heat seal so as to establish fluid communication between an interior of the composite container and the environment outside the composite container. The at least one vent channel is operable to vent excess gas pressure from the interior of the container.

Abstract: Improved packages and methods for constructing packages are provided that are designed such that the user can peel back a lidding member of the package to reveal an independently peelable portion covering one of the compartments. The independently peelable portion is a layer of the lidding member that maintains the respective compartment in an unopened (sealed) condition until the user independently peels that layer off to access the items in that compartment. The lidding member can be used to re-seal all of the compartments before and/or after the independently peelable portion is removed. The independently peelable portion may include a visual indication of a sealed condition of the compartment that serves as a tamper evidence feature. In multiple-compartment packages, peeling back the lidding member allows the user to access some of the compartments of the package, while at least one of the compartments remains sealed via the independently peelable portion.

Abstract: A composite container is provided for holding products (e.g., stacked chips). The container includes a tubular body and a peelable membrane. The tubular body is made of at least one paperboard body ply having an inner surface and a metallized Oriented Polypropylene (mOPP) liner ply adhered to the inner surface of the paperboard body ply. A liner sealant is disposed on the inner surface of the mOPP liner ply, and the paperboard body ply and the mOPP liner ply are rolled outwardly to form a rim. The membrane, which has a membrane sealant on its inner surface, is sealed to the liner sealant in the area of the rim to close the container. When the membrane is peeled away, the membrane sealant and the liner sealant remain sealed to each other and cause separation within the mOPP liner ply, avoiding tearing and exposure of the paperboard in the rim.

Abstract: A paperboard core is described above that is designed to receive a yarn wound thereon, such as an elastomeric yarn that relies on friction for proper winding of the yarn onto the core. In particular, the core includes a clay-coated paper outer ply which is capable of providing direct frictional engagement of the core with the yarn, such that the yarn is windable on the core via direct contact between the clay-coated outer ply and the yarn. In this way, there is no need to use a film on the outer surface of the core in order to obtain the desired frictional properties that will result in proper winding of the yarn onto the core.

Abstract: A double bag vacuum insulation panel for use in a temperature assured shipper made in a steam chest molding machine is provided. The double bag VIP comprises a porous core, a heat sealable inner envelope and an outer bag. The inner envelope is made from a substantially gas impermeable first material having a first thickness and defines an interior having a pressure of less than or equal to about 30 millibar. The outer bag is made from a substantially gas impermeable second material having a second thickness. The outer bag encapsulates the inner envelope. The double bag vacuum insulation panel has an R value of at least about 28 hr-ft2-° F./BTU-in and the R value drops less than about 10% after being exposed to a temperature of up to 95 degrees C. for up to 7 seconds.

Abstract: A washing machine tub insert system is provided that prevents the wash tub from impacting the washing machine cabinet during shipping and handling. The tub insert system may be made from a bottom panel and an insert that lock together.
