    Abstract: A surgical instrument comprising a housing, an elongate shaft, a stapling attachment, a motor-driven system, and a control system is disclosed. The stapling attachment comprises a first jaw, a second jaw movable relative to the first jaw from an open position toward a closed position to capture patient tissue, and a staple cartridge comprising staples. The motor-driven system comprises a drive member configured to eject the staples from the staple cartridge during a firing stroke. The drive member comprises a first portion configured to engage the first jaw and a second portion configured to engage the second jaw during the firing stroke. The control system is configured to prevent the drive member from performing the firing stroke when a thickness of tissue captured exceeds a threshold thickness and prevent the drive member from performing the firing stroke when a current draw of the motor-driven system exceeds a threshold value.

    Abstract: Adjuncts for use with surgical instruments, such as staplers, are provided. In one embodiment, an adjunct can include a plurality of suction members configured to attach the adjunct to an end effector jaw of a surgical stapler using a suction force. The suction members can be configured to generate the suction force when compressed. The suction members can be further configured to release the suction force to decouple the adjunct from the end effector jaw, permitting deployment of the adjunct at a treatment site. In certain embodiments, the suction members can include a plurality of air pockets formed in the bulk of the adjunct or within protrusions extending outward from a surface of the adjunct. The air pockets can be in communication with corresponding openings allowing air to escape the air pockets when compressed.

    Abstract: A robotic surgical system for treating a patient is disclosed including a surgical tool movable relative to the patient and a user input device including a base and a controller movable relative to the base to effect a motion. The robotic surgical system further includes a control circuit configured to receive a user selection signal indicative of a selection between a first motion scaling profile of the motion of the surgical tool and a second motion scaling profile of the motion of the surgical tool, receive a motion control signal from the user input device indicative of a user input force, and cause the surgical tool to be moved in response to the motion control signal in accordance with the first motion scaling profile or the second motion scaling profile based on the user selection signal. The first motion scaling profile is different than the second motion scaling profile.
