Abstract: A modular off-platter detection assembly for use with a barcode reader includes a housing, a first light source, a first light sensor, and a controller operatively coupled to the first light source and the first light sensor. The housing is configured to be removably mounted to the barcode reader, a frame supporting the barcode reader, or the workstation. The first light source is positioned within the housing and emits a first light along a first lateral edge of a weigh platter. The first light sensor is positioned within the housing, has a first field-of-view along the first lateral edge, and is configured to detect at least a portion of the first light reflected towards the housing. The controller is configured to provide a first alert in response to receipt of a first value from the first light sensor indicating there is an object extending across the first lateral edge.

Abstract: Example methods and apparatuses to indicate off-platter weigh conditions are disclosed herein. An example barcode reading and weighing apparatus includes a weigh platter; a scale; an off-platter detection assembly configured to detect an off-platter weigh condition; a processor in communication with the scale and the off-platter detection assembly; and a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the barcode reading and weighing apparatus to, responsive to detecting the off platter condition: compose a weight-conveying message, the weight-conveying message including (i) a weight-conveying field having the weight encoded therein and (ii) overhead information, the overhead information being operative, when the weight-conveying message is received by a POS system, to cause the POS system to not accept the weight for the transaction, the overhead information also not indicating the off-platter weigh condition to the POS system; and send the weight-conveying message to the POS system.

Abstract: An example object recognition and weighing apparatus for use with a POS terminal includes a weigh platter; a scale configured to measure a weight of the item when placed on the weigh platter; an off-platter detection assembly configured to detect an off-platter condition; an object recognition assembly configured to capture image data associated with the item, and based on the image data that includes non-barcode data, identify the item; a communication interface configured to communicate with the POS terminal; a processor in communication with the scale, the off-platter detection assembly, and the communication interface; and a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the object recognition and weighing apparatus to, responsive to detecting the off-platter condition, prevent a transmission of the identified item to the POS terminal until the off-platter condition is no longer detected.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods of reading DPM codes on objects therewith are provided. An apparatus includes a housing and a first imaging assembly housed within the housing and includes a first image sensor. The apparatus also has a second imaging assembly housed within the housing and includes a second image sensor. The apparatus also includes an illumination assembly configured to provide an illumination light having a central illumination axis. At least two of a FOV central axis of the first imaging assembly, a second FOV central axis of the second imaging assembly, and the central illumination axis pass through a plane within a first distance of no greater than about 40 mm of each other. The plane being (i) normal to the first FOV central axis and (ii) a second distance between about 0 to about 5 inches from a nose of the housing.

Abstract: Methods and systems include using three-dimensional imaging apparatuses to capture three-dimensional images and analyze resulting three-dimensional image data to enhance captured two-dimensional images for scanning related processes such as object identification, symbology detection, object recognition model training, and identifying improper scan attempts or other actions performed by an operator. Imaging systems such as bi-optic readers, handheld scanners, and machine vision systems are described using three-dimensional imaging apparatuses and described capturing three-dimensional images and using with captured two-dimensional images.
