Abstract:
A filter cartridge which is environmentally friendly in that it is made up of components which are all incinerateable. The ends of a filter element are sealed using potting compound and plastic endcaps. The upper endcap, which is closed, has a pressure relief aperture associated therewith to prevent bowing. In a plugged filter condition the high-downward pressure introduced on the upper endcap is compensated by providing the cartridge with centering ribs which bottom on an associated ledge in the housing to provide a positive stop for the top endcap, preventing it from being driven down into and through the filter element. Rubber gaskets are associated with the respective endcaps, and are reliably secured to the endcaps by being snap fit into grooves molded into the plastic of the endcaps. The lower endcap utilizes a simple radial seal gasket which is both highly effective and also positioned to avoid structural crushing forces on the cartridge. A keying system prevents the installation of improper filters.
Abstract:
A filter cartridge for liquid media at risk for freezing employed in fuel cell operated vehicles and internal combustion engines has a housing and a filter lid connected to the housing for closing the housing. A filter insert is inserted into the housing and provided with at least one filter element and terminal parts. The filter element is positioned between the terminal parts. The filter insert also has at least one pretensioning part for axially pretensioning the at least one filter element. At least one reinforcement part is provided that has at least one profiled section. It is inserted into the filter element and receives at least one of torque and axial forces. This prevents twisting of the filter element and improves the sealing action and the filter function.
Abstract:
Length-adjustable end caps and filter cartridges including the same are provided. In preferred embodiments, the length-adjustable end caps include a stationary ring member which unitarily includes an annular lip seal, and a connection member in moveable sealing contact with said lip seal. Most preferably, the lip seal is a segment of a conical surface. The stationary ring member preferably includes a connection flange which defines an annular recess concentric with, but spaced from, the unitary lip seal. An annular spacer ring received within said recess. During thermal bonding of the connection flange to an end of a generally cylindrical filter medium, the spacer ring and the end of the filter medium will both be melded to respective adjacent portion of the connection flange.
Abstract:
A cover encloses a filter cartridge in an outer housing. The cover has an unfiltered fluid inlet channel and a concentric filtered fluid outlet channel. The filter cartridge includes a filter media with a central passage. An upper endplate is provided on the upper end of the filter media, and the upper endplate has oblong openings defined therein. A separate seal retainer is attached to the upper endplate. The retainer has an outer body portion and a concentric inner body portion extending from the outer body portion. The outer body portion has a lower outwardly opening channel, and the inner body portion has an upper outwardly opening channel. An outer seal is provided in the lower channel to seal the filter cartridge with the housing. An inner seal is provided in upper channel to seal the inlet channel from the outlet channel in the cover.
Abstract:
A bowl-cartridge filter includes a filter cartridge and a bowl. The filter cartridge includes an interlock arrangement that is oriented to engage the filter bowl, when the filter cartridge is mounted in the filter bowl, and the bowl is rotated in a direction to remove the bowl-cartridge filter from a filter head. The filter bowl includes a cooperating interlock arrangement that engages the interlock arrangement on the filter cartridge. Example embodiments include cog arrangements, which include a plurality of projecting teeth. Various shapes for the teeth are possible, including house-shaped, truncated A-shaped, and pie wedged shape.
Abstract:
A liquid filter, such as an oil or gas filter, is provided which has a cup-shaped cylindrical filter housing to be mounted in a vertical orientation, with a releasable cover closing the filter housing. A liquid inlet passage and a liquid outlet passage are provided at the housing. A replaceable, substantially hollow cylindrical filter insert is vertically arranged in the housing. The filter insert being formed of a filter material member arranged between an upper and a lower disc. A collar, which is impervious to solid contaminants removed by the filter material member, extends from the lower disc upwardly along a part of the height of the filter insert, surrounding an outer circumference of the filter insert member. In this manner a collection chamber is formed for the filtered solid particles at the lower disc.
Abstract:
A filter cartridge for a liquid is designed to be removably received in a housing and comprises a tubular filter element of zig-zag folded paper having two ends that are secured to two respective flexible washers. The cartridge does not have any central reinforcement of its own and its washers co-operate directly for sealing purposes with appropriate annular bearing surfaces of a perforated rigid tube that is included in the housing: the cartridge is therefore easily discarded or degraded after use.
Abstract:
The invention is an improvement in a known cylindrical, annular fluid filter cartridge of the type having a lower end cap supporting spaced, concentric filter elements. The spaced elements define an effluent path therebetween. In known cartridges of the foregoing type, the inner and outer perimeters of the end cap (or either of them) have a significant circumferential "Perimeter of engagement" which seats into a pocket with friction fit. As a result, significant force is required to remove a cartridge, especially a large cartridge, from the housing. The improvement comprises a channel (either a tube-like riser or a manifold) and a discharge port for receiving effluent, e.g., filtered water, from the effluent path. The discharge port (with its relatively small perimeter of engagement) is configured and arranged for attachment to and detachment from an outlet vent located near the bottom of the cartridge housing. Because of the relatively small engagement perimeter of the discharge port (and the resulting reduced "frictional" forces), even large water-soaked cartridges are much more easily removed from the housing as when cleaning or replacing the cartridge.

1,273,251. Filters. CARBORUNDUM CO. 2 May, 1969, No. 22422/69. Heading BID. A sleeve-like filter element (16) of sheet material is constrained to pleated shape by having its ends clamped against outwardly extending cogs 22, 24 of a core 12 by respective segmented clamping rings 40, 42 which present inwardly extending cogs 52, 54, fitting between cogs 22, 24 (Fig. 1, not shown). The two ends of the core are joined by posts 38, and the rings 40, 42 may be similarly joined by ribs 44 or separate. Core and rings are moulded of polypropylene, and the segments of the rings in Fig. 3 are connected by integral, flexible straps 58. The rings open out (Fig. 5, not shown) to facilitate replacing the element (16), and their mating ends are secured by catch 78 or by an enclosing wire clamp (76) (Fig. 1, not shown). In Fig. 1, clamp (76) encircles axial extensions 52 of the ring, but in Fig. 10 (not shown) radial extensions support the clamp (76) around but clear of straps 58. Fig. 8 (not shown) illustrates non- integral straps (96), and in Figs. 7, 9 (not shown) ring segments are hinged together by pins (90) in slots (92). Figs. 11 to 13 (not shown) illustrate sealing the ends of the filter element between pairs of concentric gaskets or by integral rubber mouldings.
Abstract:
A filter device has a filter housing (14) with a housing pot (12), which accommodates a replaceable filter element (16) and is closed by a removable lid part (32). The element material (20) of the filter element (16) separates an unfiltrate chamber (22) from a filtrate chamber (18, 43). A measurement sensing device (108) senses pressure values from at least one of the chambers (18, 22, 43), is disposed on a lid inner side (45) of the lid part (32), is at least partially guided in the lid part, and projects into the filter housing (14). At least parts of a measurement value evaluator (78) are connected to the measurement sensing device (108) and are disposed on the opposite lid outer side (42) facing the environment.
