    Abstract: The device (10) utilizes a standard reversible airless tip (12). The air cap (18) is provided with four air passages (20) which aim radially inwardly at 45° from the centerline of the housing (30). The passages (20) have a 12° angle from being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (24) of the assembly (10). The four jets (20) provided by these passages are guided by four channels (28) in the surface of the housing (30) (also having the 12° ramp angle) so as to guide the air flow to the center of the oval orifice (14a) in the carbide (14). Two pairs of opposing air jets (22) are also provided in the air cap (18) directed perpendicularly to the fan (26) of paint or other atomized material and these jets (22) are angled at about 20.5° relative to the plane that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (24) of the assembly (10). Each pair is directed at one another and is spaced laterally from the longitudinal axis (24) to help in removing tails from the pattern.

A retrofit kit, in another embodiment, is provided with a feedback-controlled system configured to change fluid flow of a spray gun in response to one or more sensed parameters indicative of condition of a target object, a relationship between the spray gun and the target object, or a combination thereof. A spray controller, in a further embodiment, is provided with a control configured to terminate or decrease fluid flow of a spray in response to a first spray stroke away from a target object, and configured to start, continue, or increase fluid flow of the spray in response to a second spray stroke toward the target object. In yet another embodiment, a method of operation is provided for controlling fluid flow in response to feedback associated with a target object. In addition, a tangible medium is provided with instructions stored on the tangible medium, wherein the instructions comprise code configured to terminate or decrease fluid flow of a spray if the spray is not directed toward a target object, and code configured to start, continue, or increase fluid flow of the spray if the spray is directed toward the target object.

    Abstract: A device is disclosed that uses a flow-control methodology to control sprays at very high precision and frequency. The device is based on an enhanced Coanda effect. The control flow is selectively applied to the region in which we desire the jet to vector and control the profile (width) of the jet. In one embodiment, the control flow is applied at the desired circumferential location by the action of a rotting disk with a flow passage of a size that spreads the jet the desired amount. The size of this flow passage may be controlled by using two overlapping disks with large holes in each. By rotating one disk relative to the other, the size of the resultant passage can be modified.

    Abstract: A modular automatic spray gun manifold is provided. The manifold includes a plurality of spray gun modules arranged in an array in laterally spaced relation from each other. A junction element is arranged at an upstream end of the manifold for introducing fluid into the manifold.
