Abstract:
Metal working operations, especially drawing, are facilitated by applying to the metal a composition which provides lubricity thereto and which melts within the range of about 30.degree.-100.degree. C. The composition comprises at least one neutral ester, and preferably a mixture of esters, prepared from polyalkylene glycols and saturated aliphatic alcohols having at least about 10 carbon atoms, and C.sub.12 -.sub.25 aliphatic monocarboxylic acids and C.sub.4 -.sub.20 aliphatic polycarboxylic acids. The preferred ester mixtures are prepared from polyethylene glycols, C.sub.14 -.sub.20 predominantly straight chain alkanols, stearic acid and adipic, azelaic or sebacic acid. Optional ingredients include phosphorus acid salts and anti-oxidants. The composition may be applied in liquid form and solidifies on cooling to normal ambient and storage temperatures.
Abstract:
A two-cycle engine oil comprising a polypropylene glycol containing minor controlled amounts of each of a molybdenumcontaining film-strength improver and a halogenated hydrocarbon detergent-film strength improver.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are lubricating compounds comprising the reaction product of significant amounts of a fish oil, a sulfurmodified sperm oil, a microcrystalline wax and an oxide of lead, preferably litharge. In one embodiment, the lubricating compounds additionally comprise up to 90% by weight of a hydrocarbon oil which results in an extreme pressure grease lubricant having desirable lubricating properties. Also disclosed herein is a process for preparing the lubricating compounds of the invention.

Abstract:
This invention is based on a finding in which an addition of 10 - 30 wt percent of alloy powders to the solid lubricant of graphite-sodium fluoride or graphite-sodium fluoride-tungusten disulfide suitable for use at high temperature contributes to improvements of the mechanical strength as well as the friction coefficient, the preferable alloy being that of the composition of 77Cu-23Pb or 90Cu-5Sn-5Pb. While the addition of 10 - 30 wt percent of a metal salt of tungustate contributes to the formation of strong film or coatings at a high temperature and to prolongation of bearing life.
Abstract:
NOVEL COMPOSITIONS OF MATTER FORMED OFAMMONIUM AND NON-HEAVY METAL INORGANIC SALT AND HYDROXIDE INTERCALATES AND HEAVY METAL LAYERED CHALCOGENIDES, WHEREIN THE CHALOCOGEN IS SELECTED FROM SULFUR, SELENIUM AND/OR TELLURIUM. THE NOVEL INTERCALATED COMPOUNDS DISPLAY ADVANTAGEOUS CHARACTERISTICS WHEN UTILIZED AS SOLID LUBRICANTS, AND AS X-RAY DIFFRACTION GRATING CRYSTALS. CERTAIN OF THE INTERCALATED TRANSITION METAL CHALCOGENIDES ALSO EXHIBIT UNIQUE SUPERCONDUCTIVITY CHARACTERISTICS.

WATER INSOLUBLE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS WHICH LIBERATE GASEOUS NITROGEN AT HIGH TEMPERATURES AND HAVE AT LEAST ONE N-N SINGLE OR DOUBLE BOND IN EACH MOLECULE ARE ADDED TO LUBRICANTS TO IMPROVE LUBRICITY AND DECREASE CORROSION WHILE REMAINING READILY REMOVABLE FROM THE SURFACES TO WHICH THEY HAVE BEEN APPLIED.
Abstract:
A grease composition contains a polysiloxane, the organic substituents of which are primarily methyl radicals and C6 to C12 alkyl radicals, a thickener, optionally an amount of a polyether which is sufficient to cause the thickener to disperse into the polysiloxane, but insufficient to deleteriously affect the high temperature properties of the grease, and optionally a sufficient amount of a base to render the grease alkaline. The grease is made by heating together the polysiloxane, the polyether, the thickener and the base to a temperature of about 400*-500* F. after which the grease composition is cooled to room temperature, then milled. The grease composition is used in windshield wiper bearings and drive mechanisms, which are subject to oscillatory motion, often while being flooded with water.
Abstract:
Compositions useful as antioxidants, corrosion inhibitors and extreme pressure agents in lubricants are prepared from hydrazine or a substituted hydrazine, carbon disulfide, and the product obtained by reacting a hydroxy-substituted phosphorothioic acid triester with an inorganic phosphorus acid, oxide or halide and neutralizing a substantial portion of the acidic intermediate thus obtained with an amine.
