Abstract: A method for insulating thermal devices with a composite insulation system including an evacuated powder and a plastic foam. A formed plastic part divides the insulation space between the outer case and inner liner into sectors. Some sectors are filled with a finely divided powder, the remaining sectors are filled with foam, for example, polyurethane. A vacuum is applied to the powder filled sectors while the foam is expanding and curing.

Abstract: A method of measuring pressure includes the steps of (1) providing a vacuum cabinet with a storage compartment and an insulating space, and three temperature sensors; (2) sensing a first temperature level of an interior wall of the storage compartment; (3) sensing an ambient temperature level within the storage compartment; (4) sensing a second temperature level of an exterior wall of the storage compartment; (5) calculating an overall heat transfer coefficient (Q) using the ambient temperature level, the first temperature level, and a convective heat transfer coefficient for the interior wall of the storage compartment; (6) calculating a temperature differential between the second and first temperature levels; (7) determining a conductivity level (K) using the temperature differential, the overall heat transfer coefficient (Q) and a thickness of the insulating space; and (8) determining a pressure level (P) within the insulating space using the conductivity level (K).

Abstract: A hard-sided cooler box may include a channel or cylindrical-shaped hole that extends from the outside of the cooler box to the inside of the cooler box. This cylindrical-shaped hole or channel may be covered/sealed by one or more latches of the cooler box when the cooler box is closed, and the latches are secured. However, when the latches of the cooler box are released, the cylindrical-shaped hole or channel may be unblocked, and the air from the interior of the cooler box can escape to the outside of the cooler box before the lid is lifted from the body. This allows the lid to be opened with no struggle.
