Abstract:
An auxiliary computing device normally used for remotely controlling a primary device may change its functionality and extend its usefulness based on a usage context. An auxiliary device may change its usage context by connecting differently to a primary device depending on any number of parameters including distance from the device, battery life, connection method, and proximity to other devices. The device may change its usage context by interfacing with a primary device service that communicates with various applications to feed the auxiliary device different information in different usage contexts. Further, the device may control different functions of the primary device based on the usage context.
Abstract:
An arrangement and method for equipment remote control according to a predetermined user profile. Controllable equipment is provided with a first wireless communication device. A user identity badge is provided with a second wireless communication device for communication, when in-range, with the first wireless communication device. A mobile communication terminal in communication with an Internet Protocol (IP) network, and provided with a third wireless communication device, communicates, when in-range, with the second wireless communication device. User and equipment identities are communicated to a user profile server connected to the IP network, and a user profile is returned to the equipment which is configured accordingly.
Abstract:
A programmable universal remote control unit, settable in one of either a single device mode of operation or a multi-device mode of operation, and a programmable universal remote control unit which is programmable such that at least one of a plurality of buttons on the universal remote control unit, when operated, performs a plurality of specific operations such as turning specific devices on/off and setting specific devices in particular modes.
Abstract:
A remote control having an improved user interface. A remote control for navigating a menu system provided on a digital video disc (DVD) is disclosed. The remote control comprises memory for storing a sequence of navigation keystrokes and programming for subsequently executing the sequence, whereby material on the DVD is navigated. Remote controls having a display screen are also used to enhance the user interface. More general systems and methods related to consumer electronics are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Devices and methods are disclosed for establishing interaction among electronic devices of an environment. The device has a transmitter, receiver, memory for storing interaction rules, and a processor for learning the interaction rules in association with the transmitter, receiver, and other devices of the environment. The device also includes components for performing the device specific functions and a state sensor for determining the logical or physical state of the device. Methods involve observing at one or more devices change of state activity among the plurality of devices through receiving a change of state message that is transmitted to the one or more devices. A set of rules are learned at the one or more devices based upon observing the change of state activity. The learned set of rules are then applied at the one or more devices to automatically control changes of state of devices within the plurality of devices.
Abstract:
A remote control transmission monitoring system. A remote control has programming for transmitting a sequence of command codes and a command receiver has programming for determining if the transmission from the remote control included all of the command codes in the sequence of command codes. The programming further functions to generate a signal to cause corrective action to be taken and/or to notify a user that an unsuccessful transmission of the sequence of command codes occurred when the transmission from the remote control is determined to include less than all of the command codes in the sequence of command codes.
Abstract:
A programmable universal remote control unit, settable in one of either a single device mode of operation or a multi-device mode of operation.
Abstract:
A remote control unit that learns commands from associated remote control units associated with specific pieces of electronic equipment is described. The remote control unit stores commands that are learned and in addition stores time delays that are needed to provide the desired sequential operation of electronic equipment. The remote control unit, upon pressing a single button, sends a replica of signals and delays that a user would use when interacting with the pieces of electronic equipment. The remote control unit further has a prohibited operation window wherein a signal cannot be sent from the remote control unit.
Abstract:
A method and a system of controlling application devices simultaneously. The application devices can be a Web tablet, a set-top box, a VCR, a TV, and PDA, a lamp, a coffee machine, a radio, a telephone, a background wall, a DVD player or an electronic information panel. The method includes four steps controlled by a server: retrieving first documents (501) from a first set of application devices; retrieving identification (502) of a user; generating (505) second documents, each comprising an instruction, on the basis of at least a part of the retrieved identification of the user and at least a part of the first documents; simultaneously sending (506) at least one of the second documents to each device of a second set of the application devices; and performing (507) for a given device of the second set one instruction from at least one of the second documents received in the given device. The step of retrieving identification by the server includes the steps of retrieving user profile (503) information based on the user identification, and retrieving context profile information (504) relating to present surroundings of the user. The said documents include Hyper Text Markup Language, Scalable Vector Graphics, Resource Description Framework and Extensible Markup Language (XML).
Abstract:
A method and system is provided for detecting, commanding and controlling diverse home devices currently connected to a home network. An interface is provided for accessing the home devices that are currently connected to a home network. According to the method, a device link file is generated, wherein the device link file identifies home devices that are currently connected to the home network. A device link page is created, wherein the device link page contains a device button that is associated with each home device that is identified in the device link file. A hyper-text link is associated with each device button, wherein the hyper-text link provides a link to an HTML page that is contained on the home device that is associated with the device button, and the device link page is displayed on a browser based home device.
