Abstract: Examples herein provide a method. The method includes printing first color patches at a first location on a first side of a print medium. The method includes generating an international color consortium (“ICC”) profile of the first side by characterizing the first color patches using a spectrophotometer. The method includes printing, using the ICC profile of the first side, second color patches at a second location on the first side of the print medium. The method includes printing third color patches on a second side of the print medium, the third patches being a registered mirrored copy of the second patches. The method includes generating an ICC profile of the second side by characterizing the registered second and third patches using the spectrophotometer.

Abstract: A method is described. The method comprises determining a lightness coordinate value corresponding to a first color value along a black-white axis in an input device color space. A set of color values corresponding to the lightness coordinate value, in the input device color space is determined. A subset of the set, based on the respective angular positions of the color values in the set and an angular position of the first color value is determined. The method comprises deriving a set of print color space values of a target printing system comprising print color space values corresponding to the subset and a color value corresponding to the position of the lightness coordinate value, based on a predetermined association between input device color space values and print color space values. The method comprises determining a given print color space value corresponding to the first color value based on the derived set of print color space values.

Abstract: A computer system for analyzing a paint sample and generating values that describe various attributes of a proposed matching color can comprise instructions for receiving from a coating-measurement instrument one or more coating variables of a target coating. The system can also comprise instructions for calculating coating texture ratings for the multiple respective proposed coating matches. The coating texture ratings can indicate a similarity between the one or more coating texture characteristics of the target coating and respective coating texture characteristics of each of the respective proposed coating matches. Additionally, the system can comprise instructions for sending instructions to generate a user interface that depicts overall rankings of at least a portion of the proposed coating matches. The overall rankings indicate a similarity between the target coating and each of the at least a portion of the proposed coating matches with respect to the coating texture ratings.

Abstract: Calibration devices for calibrating a camera, systems for computer-aided determination of hair colour information, and methods for calibrating a camera are provided herein. In an embodiment, a method for calibrating a camera includes recording a digital image of a piece of calibration information on a fibre from a plurality of fibres from natural hair or fibres that resemble natural hair by employing a camera. The fibre is identified in the digital image by employing a marker. A plurality of colour values are determined for a plurality of reference colours as the calibration information on the fibre in the digital image, wherein a reference colour value is assigned to each reference colour. The respective determined colour value for the plurality of the determined colour values is assigned to the respectively assigned reference colour value for the plurality of reference colour values.

Abstract: A color measurement system is provided that includes an integrating sphere having at least one specular component included (SCI) sensor configured to output a signal in response to light incident thereupon and at least one specular component excluded (SCE) sensor configured to output a signal in response to light incident thereupon, a sample port, a SCE port, a light source configured to direct a beam of light into the sphere and provide illumination at the sample port and a specular component excluded port. The system also includes a processor having a memory and configured by code to activate the light source so as to cause a beam of light to be directed into the sphere and provide illumination to the sample port. The processor is also configured to receive a signal output by the SCI sensor and a signal output by the SCE sensor. Furthermore, the processor is configured to obtain at least one measurement coefficient value and generate a corrected SCE measurement value using at least the SCI sensor value, the SCE sensor value and the obtained measurement coefficient. The processor is configured to output at least the corrected SCE measurement value and the SCI measurement value.

Abstract: Using an image capturing device, multiple images can be obtained at different angles with respect to a surface of a target coating. In one computer-implemented embodiment, a method involves using a filtering technique to perform an image analysis on the obtained images to determine the presence of sparkle points within the images. A color attribute analysis can then be performed to determine various color attributes associated with the determined sparkle point. A sparkle color distribution can then be calculated in response to the color attribute analysis. A coating formulation can then be generated, in association with the calculated sparkle color distribution, which is the same or substantially similar to the target coating.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for combining colorants using a camera. The method of combining colorants using a camera includes extracting color data from an image of an object captured using a camera, converting the color data into spectral reflection factor data of the object on the basis of a pre-constructed camera color model, acquiring spectral reflection factor data for an estimated colorant combination obtained by simulating a combination of colorant samples obtained from a colorant database, and selecting an optimal colorant combination by comparing errors between the spectral reflection factor data of the object and the spectral reflection factor data for the estimated colorant combination. Therefore, it is possible to use a highly accessible and inexpensive camera, such as a smartphone camera, and thus an ordinary user can easily find an optimal colorant combination.

Abstract: Color calibration of color image rendering devices, such as large color displays, which operate by either projection or emission of images, utilize internal color measurement instrument or external color measurement modules locatable on a wall or speaker. A dual use camera is provided for a portable or laptop computer, or a cellular phone, handset, personal digital assistant or other handheld device with a digital camera, in which one of the camera or a display is movable with respect to the other to enable the camera in a first mode to capture images of the display for enabling calibration of the display, and in a second mode for capturing image other than of the display. The displays may represent rendering devices for enabling virtual proofing in a network, or may be part of stand-alone systems and apparatuses for color calibration. Improved calibration is also provided for sensing and correcting for non-uniformities of rendering devices, such as color displays, printer, presses, or other color image rendering device.
