Abstract:
A device for lifting the leading end of a paper web to the underside of a support drum on which rolls can be formed from the paper web comprises a lifting device which has a suction box pivotal thereon about an axis parallel to the drum axis, so that as the suction box passes between the blades of a longitudinal slitter, it can assume a generally vertical orientation. The suction surface is elastically deformable against the underside of the drum.
Abstract:
The invention comprises a measuring device and method for the pressing zone width pressure per unit area of this zone and/or additional characteristic variables of a roll of material depending on the pressing surface area. A time interval measured directly or indirectly in which the distance a sensor from the roll of material is either above or below a certain limiting value is obtained by a plurality of sensors positioned on the surface of a roller pressed against the roll. The pressing zone width is automatically computed from this time interval and the speed of the web of sheet material and, if necessary, additional information including the radius of the roll, the weight of the roll of material and the like. The winding of the sheet of material is controlled based upon the ascertained pressing zone width. The pressing zone width and thus also the roll hardness is controlled according to a program by at least a portion of the parameters determining the hardness, these variables or parameter including the geometry of the winding device, the advance of the rollers, (i.e. the angle which the plane through the axis of the roller and the axis of the roll makes with the vertical) the tension on the web of sheet material and/or the pressure of the press roller.
Abstract:
Apparatus for the dispensing of very small amounts of liquid includes a measuring vessel which can be filled with an amount of liquid, and to whose outlet there is connected an ejector of a partial quantity. A sensor responds to the liquid level in the measuring vessel, to control a filling system which receives therefrom a signal for the filling of the measuring vessel when the minimum permissible lower liquid level is reached and a signal for the ending of the filling process when the maximum permissible upper liquid level is reached. The sensor is a capacitor which extends at least over the entire range of the variable liquid level in the measuring vessel and whose dielectric is the liquid situated in the measuring vessel. A capacitance meter is provided for measuring the capacitance of the capacitor.
Abstract:
In an apparatus for the pulse-wise dispensing of very small amounts of liquid controlled with a measuring instrument. The measuring instrument comprises an ejector for the pulse-wise ejection of a desired amount of liquid and a measuring vessel having a volume greater than the volume of the liquid to be ejected for each pulse. The measuring vessel has an outlet connected to the ejector and a cross-section of the vessel is adapted to the amounts of liquid to be controlled. A sensing apparatus has an upper and lower sensing device positioned at the vessel and responsive to the level of the liquid therein with an accuracy of about from 1 to 5 amounts of liquid to be ejected and which generates a signal when the upper and lower sensing devices are activated. A pulse generator is synchronized with the ejector and a counter receives counting pulses from the pulse generator and is activated to start by the upper sensing device and to stop by the lower sensing device whereby the known volume in the vessel, divided by the number of pulses counted by the counter, measures the amount of liquid ejected by the ejector for each pulse.
Abstract:
To lift the leading end of a paper web upwardly into contact with the underside of a perforated support roll which draws the web by suction thereagainst, a bar, rod or wire forming an entrainer is lifted by a pair of strands controlled by a windlass to engage the entrainer in a crease at the leading end of the web, the entrainer passing over a pressing roller which can be displaced toward the support roller and is retractable therefrom.
Abstract:
A measuring device for determining the pressure zone width and/or surface pressure between a web roll for a web and a further roll of a winding apparatus includes at least one reflex sensor emitting a radiation towards the web roll and receiving radiation reflected from the web roll. The reflex sensor is provided with a source emitting the radiation towards the web roll and a receiver which picks up beams reflected from the web roll. Source and receiver are embedded within the peripheral area of the further roll and are arranged adjacent to each other. During winding of the web, the reception of the radiation is interrupted when the web roll covers the source and/or the receiver. This interruption of the reception is a measure for the pressure zone width and in connection with other variables and constants for the roll firmness.
Abstract:
A device for measuring the winding hardness of a strip, especially a strip of paper, that has been wound into a reel. The device consists of a mechanism for extracting a slip that has been inserted tight between two coils of the reel of paper with one end extending out of the side of the reel and of a dynamometer that measures the force necessary to extract the slip over a certain distance. To allow winding hardness to be displayed directly rather than in the form of a graph, the slip-extracting mechanism operates at a constant extracting speed, a pulse generator that is supplied with the resulting force, or with a control signal derived from it, by the dynamometer supplies counting pulses to an up-down counter at a frequency that is proportional to the force, and the slip-extracting mechanism is connected to an odometer that, when it detects equal distances, switches the counter from up to down and stops it.
Abstract:
In an apparatus for the pulsewise dispensing of very small amounts of liquid controlled with a measuring instrument comprising an ejecting device for the pulsewise ejection of a desired amount of liquid, a pump is provided for supplying liquid to the vessel from a reservoir. The pump includes a neck portion having an inlet at the bottom thereof and a foot portion, with at least the foot portion immersed in a liquid contained in the reservoir. The foot portion has a volume at least as great as the refill volume of the measuring vessel and a feedline to the measuring vessel is disposed within the neck portion and terminates in proximity to the bottom of the foot portion. A check valve opens and closes the foot portion inlet by means of compressed gas which is controllable by sensing devices at the measuring vessel.
Abstract:
A synchronizing system for synchronizing the speeds of two webs of goods, wherein the first web runs at a constant speed and the second web has an adjustable running speed. First pulses are generated which have a frequency dependent upon the speed of the second web and a first counter is associated with the second web and is triggered by the first pulses. The first counter is also controlled to be started and stopped by at least one pair of timing marks which are running with the second web of goods. As a result of the frequency of the first pulses and the starting and stopping of the first counter, the first counter reaches a constant count upon stopping and each time the first counter is started for the next count this constant count is reached. Second pulses having a constant frequency associated with the speed of the first web are used to trigger a second counter which is started and stopped by the first counter when the constant count is reached. The count that is finally obtained in the second counter is indicative of the amount of over synchronization or under synchronization of the speed of the second web relative to the first web.
Abstract:
An apparatus for adjusting the mutual distance of several movable elements placed side by side wherein control means are provided to insure that the various movable elements move in a transposition operation, the same distance as determined by measuring means which measure the distance which a first movable element moves. The device includes means for repositioning the relative position of the movable elements such that following the repositioning operation, the various movable elements are maintained at a fixed relative distance from one another, the repositioning being conducted by measuring the distance by which a first movable elements moves and moving the related movable elements in response.
