Abstract: A laparoscopic tissue sealant spray apparatus and system having a laparoscopic tissue sealant spray assembly combined with a trocar assembly, the tissue sealant spray assembly having an elongate delivery tube. A spray outlet at a distal end of the elongate delivery tube may be rounded or angled. A ring member provided at the distal end of the elongate delivery tube directs a spray cone toward a portion of a target tissue site, and the spray cone may be repositioned to a different portion of the target tissue site by rotation of the elongate delivery tube. The trocar assembly includes a vent opening that connects to a venting valve member that provides a vent path which passively opens upon operation of the tissue sealant spray assembly, avoiding excessive pressure build-up within a body cavity.

Abstract: A tissue sealant applicator system includes a tissue sealant applicator having an elongate body forming a bore containing a tissue sealant component, a piston, and a spray adaptor in fluid communication with the bore and forming a gas flow path. The system also includes a control unit adapted to be connected to a gas source, and a first gas passageway connecting the gas flow path and the control unit. The applicator includes an actuating member cooperatively associated with the piston to eject the tissue sealant from the bore upon user actuation. The control unit is adapted to supply gas from the gas source to the first gas passageway essentially simultaneously with user actuation of the actuating member, and to permit the supply of gas to the spray adaptor from the gas source to continue to flow for a predetermined time delay after the user stops actuating the actuating member.

Abstract: The present invention relates to recombinant fusion proteins wherein erythropoietin (EPO) is linked via its C-terminus to an Fc fragment, and wherein said recombinant fusion proteins are further carbamoylated at the primary amines of the fusion protein. More specifically the invention relates to carbamoylated EPO-Fc fusion proteins, wherein at least one, preferably two or more, lysine amine residues and/or the N-terminal amino acid of said fusion protein are carbamoylated. The carbamoylated EPO-Fc fusion proteins of the present invention having a reduced hematopoietic activity whereas the tissue regenerative activity, i.e. the nerval cell regenerative activity remains unaltered or is even enhanced as compared to unmodified EPO-Fc fusion proteins. The invention further relates to a process for the manufacture of such fusion proteins and to pharmaceutical compositions containing them, as well as to the use of such fusion proteins and pharmaceutical compositions for medical therapy.

Abstract: The present invention is generally directed to various structures for applying a sealant to a work surface. In one aspect of the invention, a sealant applicator assembly is provided for use with an apparatus of the type having an elongated body defining an interior bore and having a piston movably positioned in the bore and a pusher member operatively associated with the piston. The assembly comprises a spray adaptor adapted to communicate with the bore of the body and defining a distal outlet. A first gas passageway is cooperatively associated with the distal outlet and configured to direct gas to create a spray discharge of the sealant. An actuating member is adapted to be cooperative associated with a pusher member to eject sealant through the distal outlet and is operative to simultaneously actuate a supply of gas to the first gas passageway for creating a spray discharge of sealant.

Abstract: There is disclosed an arrangement for applying a tissue adhesive based on human or animal proteins to seamlessly or seam-supportingly connect human or animal tissue or organ parts, to seal wounds, stop bleedings and the like. The tissue adhesive is formed in situ by combining solutions of the proteins and of blood-clot-promoting coagulation factors. The arrangement includes a plurality of containers ending in joining pieces for accommodating the components to be applied. A connecting head is attachable to the joining pieces of the containers, which includes a separate conveying channel for each of the components to be applied. In order to design an arrangement of the above defined kind to be troublefree and to render it usable even for hardly accessible application sites, without requiring an exchange of parts of the arrangement at an interruption of the component flow, and to be able to use it with and without the help of an endoscope, the connecting head includes an additional conveying channel for a medicinal gas. This channel leads to the front side of the connecting head parallel and closely adjacent the remaining conveying channels. The connecting head is continued in either a multi-lumen catheter containing a gas-conveying channel or in a mixing needle.
