Abstract:
A method for removing residual styrene monomers from co-extrudates comprising polystyrene and water-insoluble, crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone, which comprises subjecting an aqueous suspension of the particulate solid co-extrudate to a heat treatment at temperatures of 60 to 99° C., the weight ratio of solid co-extrudate to water in the suspension being 1:1.5 to 1:20, and the concentration of the suspension being kept constant during the treatment.
Abstract:
Incorporation of crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone in a specific particle composition as a disintegrant in compact particulate laundry detergents or cleaning products, such a particle composition and the compact particulate laundry detergents themselves, a process for preparing such a compact particulate laundry detergents or cleaning products, and a process for preparing specific particle compositions.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to substrates whose surface comprises a hyperbranched polymer which has urethane groups and/or urea groups, its amount being appropriate for modifying the properties on the surface. The invention further relates to a process for modifying the surface properties of substrates.
Abstract:
A cleaner composition which comprises at least one surfactant, at least one builder and at least one nitrogen-containing polymer is described. The nitrogen-containing polymer is, for example, an alkoxylated polyvinylamine, an alkoxylated, acylated or alkylated polyaminoamide or a polyurethane-urea with tertiary amino groups. The nitrogen-containing polymers facilitate soil release.
Abstract:
A description is given of a process for preparing aqueous copolymer dispersions by free-radical polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in an aqueous solution in which (a) from 10 to 90% by weight of at least one hydrophilic monomer A which has an N-vinyl group and whose polymerisation rate possesses a maximum at pH levels above 7, and (b) from 10 to 90% by weight of at least-one monoethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer B whose polymerisation rate possesses a maximum at pH levels below 7, are copolymerised in the presence of a free-radical initiator system such that in the course of the polymerization the pH falls by from 2 to 5 units. The copolymer dispersions prepared in this way and the copolymers obtainable therefrom are suitable as auxiliaries for pharmaceutical, cosmetic or agrochemical formulations and for preparing paints, coating compositions, sizes, and adhesives.
Abstract:
Processes comprising: (i) providing a filter aid comprising a co-extrudate of a water-insoluble polyvinylpyrrolidone and a thermoplastic polymer; (ii) treating the filter aid with aqueous alkali; (iii) subsequently treating the filter aid with an enzyme; and (iv) subsequently thereto carrying out a second treatment with aqueous alkali, to provide a regenerated filter aid, and uses therefor.

Abstract:
The use is described of particulate, water-insoluble and scarcely swellable polymers of ethylenically unsaturated monomers, which polymers contain, copolymerized, at least 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the monomers, of at least one &agr;,&bgr;-monoethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid having from 3 to 6 carbons as filter aid for filtering aqueous liquids. Subject-matter of the invention are also water-insoluble, scarcely swellable polymers (popcorn polymers) that contain, copolymerized, &agr;,&bgr;-monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids and styrene or styrene derivatives, and also a process for their preparation.
