Abstract:
In a railroad track comprising a railroad rail having a lower flange, a railroad tie made from concrete, and a polyurethane pad mounted between the lower flange of the railroad rail and an upper surface of the railroad tie, a particulate layer is interposed between the polyurethane pad and the railroad tie and comprises particles bonded to the polyurethane pad. Preferably, the bonded particles are polycarbonate, acrylic, or nylon particles, either granules or fibers. Alternatively, the bonded particles are particles of quartz, silica sand, silicon carbide, or aluminum oxide. An adhesive layer is interposed between the polyurethane pad and the railroad tie, comprises a methacrylate ester composition, and is bonded to particles among the bonded particles and to the railroad tie, whereby the polyurethane pad and the railroad tie are bonded to one another via the particulate and adhesive layers.
Abstract:
A method and composition for fracturing a subterranean formation which comprises (1) contacting a subterranean formation with an aqueous liquid comprising a propping agent and a composition containing water, acrylamide:methacrylate copolymer cross-linked with chromium (III) ion, in presence of carbonate ion, oxalate ion, and, optionally, persulfate ion, (2) applying pressure to said liquid, (3) maintaining said pressure to fracture said formation, (4) and said gel breaking within 24 hours of gel formation. The composition without the persulfate gel breaking is also useful for sand consolidation and fluid control.
Abstract:
A borated bis succinimide, containing a high level of boron (preferably 1.0 to 3.0 wt. percent) is prepared by heat reacting a corresponding bis succinimide in mineral oil solution with boric acid and water at an elevated temperature of at least about 177.degree. C. Superborated succinimides prepared in the foregoing manner are useful as borating agents for ashless nitrogen containing dispersants. Lubricating compositions which incorporate nitrogenous ashless dispersants borated with the superborated succinimide of the present invention show reduced tendency to degrade engine seals manufactured from fluorine containing elastomers.
