Abstract:
A technique for providing secondary data in a single frequency network (SFN) provides a first forward error correcting (FEC) decoder for decoding a received coded orthogonal frequency division multiplex (COFDM) signal. A second FEC decoder is also provided for decoding a received COFDM signal. When the received COFDM signal includes valid primary data, the first FEC decoder is utilized to decode the received COFDM signal to provide general information, i.e., music, sports, etc. When a received COFDM signal includes valid secondary data, the second FEC decoder is utilized to decode the received COFDM signal to provide regional information, e.g., emergency broadcasting information. The received COFDM signal includes one or more defined COFDM symbols inserted by a transmitter of the COFDM signal to indicate the valid secondary data and the invalid primary data.
Abstract:
A satellite antenna module is disclosed. The satellite antenna module includes at least one antenna element disposed on a ground plane. The ground plane is capacitivly coupled to a vehicle surface. The ground plane is disposed over the vehicle surface at an elevation angle that achieves a higher gain of the at least one antenna element.
Abstract:
A satellite antenna is mounted on one side of a window. The window is made of metallized glass or has an electrically conductive print applied to the side opposite the satellite antenna. The electrically conductive print or metallized glass serves as a ground connection for the satellite antenna.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to the transmission of GPS reference information, and more particularly, to transmission of GPS ephemeris information for mobile applications. A Telemetry word data is provided by and/or transmitted by a non-cellular, land based network and received by a receiver. A location signal is computed by a processor and transmitted to the GPS receiver. An accumulator accumulates that data and stores it in a data base. The unit may be connected to a Public Safety Answering Point. Also, the present invention provides a method to assist the GPS in mobile applications where the user does not necessarily have a cellular phone. The present invention discloses a method of transmitting ephemeris data to assist the GPS receiver without relying on the cellular telephone network.
Abstract:
A technique for recording information received by a satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) receiver for playback encrypts content of a received SDAR channel using a local key that is unique to the SDAR receiver. The encrypted content is then stored for playback. When selected for playback, the stored encrypted content is decrypted with the local key and provided to the user.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus provide dynamic content rating for digital transmissions of media programs. Rather than one rating or a set of ratings be associated with an entire program or broadcast channel, content rating data relates to specific segments of a program. A user of a media receiving device presets rating criteria relating to a level or type of content to be blocked. The preset criteria are then used to selectively block presentation of those segments of content of a media program that fall outside the acceptable rating criteria. A timed length or display area segment of audio, video, text, graphics, or data may be dynamically blocked based on a comparison of the content rating associated with the segment and the user's preset rating criteria.
Abstract:
A system for receiving a satellite digital radio signal, the system comprising: a repeater having a unibody housing and an antenna disposed within the housing, the antenna being configured for receiving the satellite digital radio signal; a repeater circuit for receiving the satellite digital radio signal of the antenna, the repeater circuit being configured to condition and re-transmit the satellite digital radio signal as a first signal containing audio data capable of being transmitted through electrical wiring; a satellite digital radio signal receiver having a receiver circuit being configured to receive the first signal; and wherein the receiver circuit receives the first signal from a power cable of the satellite digital radio signal receiver.
