Abstract:
An assembly of an internally threaded fastener and a stemmed washer is provided, such as for applications in which a standoff is desired between a washer and a mating externally threaded fastener. The stemmed washer includes a washer portion, a retaining portion and a standoff portion. The retaining portion interfaces with the internally threaded fastener to retain the fastener in the assembly. The stemmed washer may include a skirt which is plastically deformed to capture the fastener. The fastener may include a skirt which similarly plastically to mate with a retaining lip on the stemmed washer. The fastener and washer may be secured in the assembly to permit relative rotation of the fastener with respect to the washer.
Abstract:
A sight glass retaining system is provided for mounting a sight glass to a support panel, such as for viewing combustion or other processes. The system includes a retainer which forms a continuous frame and has lateral flanges for locating the sight glass. Retaining tabs extend from the frame and support resilient retaining portions which snap into engagement with the support panel. A resilient element, which may form a seal with the sight glass and support panel, urges the assembly in compression to maintain tight engagement of the components, and generally column loads the retaining portions to preclude movement of the assembly on the support panel.
Abstract:
An apparatus for severing a lead nut from a linear arrangement of attached nuts and for securing such a lead nut to carrier material is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a punch operated by a ram and disposed within a stripper, and a die disposed within a nut guide and secured to a fixed base. The punch is spring biased within the stripper and is oriented towards the die in such a manner that advancement of the punch toward the die also advances the punch tip towards the die cavity. The nut guide is spring biased away from the base. The nut guide includes two interconnecting passageways, one passageway being laterally disposed toward the other. An arrangement of attached nuts is advanceable, within the first nut guide passageway, toward the die surface. The carrier material is supported upon an upper surface of the nut guide, being interposed between the punch and the die. From a starting position, the ram advances the punch and stripper, as a unit, toward the die causing the stripper to engage the carrier material urging the nut guide downwardly toward the base severing the lead nut from the remainder of the attached nuts. Downward motion of the punch, relative to the die, causes the punch tip to puncture the carrier material drawing portions of the carrier material into the lead nut hole and securing the lead nut to the carrier material.

An assembly of a threaded fastener and a stemmed washer is provided, such as for applications in which a standoff is desired between a washer and a mating threaded fastener. The stemmed washer includes a washer portion and a standoff portion extending from the washer portion. The threaded fastener has a retaining structure extending about the washer portion and capturing the washer structure in an assembly with the threaded fastener. For example, the retaining structure may have a washer receptacle for the washer portion. The washer portion is captured in the washer receptacle by a deformed catch section below the washer portion.
Abstract:
A grounding clip having a generally U-shape spring clamp having first and second opposing walls extending from a curved base portion thereof, the first and second walls each having a leading edge portion opposite the curved base portion. The spring clamp is fastenable to a panel with the curved base portion disposed over the panel edge, the first wall of the spring clamp adjacent one side of the panel and the second wall thereof adjacent the other side of the panel. A wire fastening member, preferably the crimping type, extends from first wall of the spring clamp between the curved base portion of the spring clamp and the leading edge portion thereof. When the spring clamp is fastened to the panel, the wire fastening member and wire fastened thereto are adjacent the corresponding side of the panel and spaced apart from the panel edge, whereby only the curved base portion of the grounding clip protrudes beyond the panel edge.
