Abstract:
A sputtering target having at least one flat first sputtering surface and at least one second sputtering surfaces respectively and laterally abutted against the flat first sputtering surface and slanting in one direction relative to the first sputtering surface. By means of adjusting the position of the second sputtering surface related to the first sputtering surface and utilizing the differently slanted second sputtering surface of the sputtering target, the distribution of the thin film deposited on the surfaced of a substrate is relatively controlled and a uniform thickness of the thin film is obtained.
Abstract:
A multiwavelength semiconductor laser array and a method of fabricating the same are provided. Laser resonators having stacked quantum dot active regions of different emission wavelengths are utilized together with a fabricating process to change the length of each laser resonator or that of an upper electrode layer to generate different laser oscillation conditions, such that each of the laser resonators generates a single-wavelength band laser in a specific quantum dot active region, thereby achieving a multiwavelength semiconductor laser array capable of generating multiple laser wavelengths.

Abstract:
The invention provides a method and apparatus for controlling a ventilation device. When the power switch of a room is turned on, the light of the room is turned on and the fan of the room is also turned on. When the power switch is turned off the light goes off, the automatic controlled fan still works for a predetermined amount of time (say, 5 minutes) and then shuts off automatically. If later the room is not being used, the automatic controlled fan will automatically repeat turning on and off (only turned on for a short time say, 5 minutes) periodically according to a set interval (say, repeat every 30 minutes). By the above automatic control of the ventilation fan, the bad odors or humid air in the room can be removed. If the room is not used for a longer period of time (say, 12 hours), the automatic controller enters sleep mode and the sleep timer will shut off the automatic repeat on/off function. In sleep mode, the fan won't be automatically turned-on/off to save energy assuming that the humid air in the room is well ventilated. With the user-friendly and energy saving automatic control features over the ventilation fan, the user can enjoy a better living quality.

The present invention provides a method for reading information recorded in a boundary area adjacent to a boundary between a first area and a second area on an optical disc. The method includes: controlling a pick-up head (PUH) to detect the optical disc to generate a detection signal accordingly; moving the PUH along a first direction from a start point; monitoring the detection signal and stopping the PUH when the detection signal changes; moving the PUH along a second direction; monitoring the detection signal and stopping the PUH in the boundary area of the first area when the detection signal changes; and reading the information recorded in the boundary area of the first area by the PUH.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for controlling the operation of an electric fan. The primary objective of the present invention is to automatically adjust the requirement of the blowing of the fan in sleeping time at night. Therefore, in a sleeping status at night, the invented electric fan is designed by that a small operating cycle of the fan is gradually changed from blowing for a long period of time and stopping operating for a short period of time to blowing for a shortened short period of time and stopping operating for a lengthened period of time, operating for a fixed period of time prior to stopping operating for a changeable period of time which extends by the extension of the sleeping time, or operating for a long period of time which shortens due to the extension of the sleeping time prior to stopping operating for a fixed period of time. In this way, the automatic adjustment can reduce the requirement of the blowing of the fan, so the sleeping user will not catch cold so easily as caused by the conventional electric fans. The present invention controls the operation of the electric fans by embedding software in a microprocessor or by using an application specific integrated circuit.
Abstract:
A position detector is provided for use on a spin-drying machine employed in integrated circuit (IC) fabrication to detect whether the spin-drying machine has shifted in position during operation. If the spin-drying machine is positioned incorrectly, the position detector is capable of stopping the operation of robot arms used to grab and position wafers on the spin-drying machine so that the robot arms will not be damaged or crash into the wafers on the spin-drying machine due to the incorrect positioning of the spin-drying machine. The position detector is designed for use on a spin-drying machine having a spinning unit, a fixed platform surrounding the spinning unit, and at least one robot arm mounted on the fixed unit. The position detector comprises a pair of emitters mounted on the spinning unit and a pair of oppositely arranged receivers on the fixed platform. In the event that the spinning unit has shifted in position, one or both of the paired emitter/receiver units generates an OFF signal indicative of such a condition. In response, a control unit stops the operation of the robot arm, so that the robot arm will not be damaged or crash into the wafers on the spin-drying machine.
