Abstract:
The disclosed technology includes gunfire response systems and methods to detect gunfire, turn off lights when gunfire is detected, disable the lights from being switched on, and notify emergency responders. Such systems can help minimize ensuing risk following a shooting event by limiting the vision of a person who produced the gunfire. In some embodiments, the light switch system comprises one or more sensors. In some specific embodiments, the sensors include a microphone, infrared sensor, and optionally a camera. In some specific embodiments, the system is configured to detect gunfire sound, detect a type of gun that produced gunfire, and count of a number of shots of the gunfire.
Abstract:
A polymeric film has a substrate layer of polyester material and an antistatic layer containing a polyester/polyalkylene oxide copolymer and a salt, the ratio by weight of copolymer/salt being in the range from 0.1 to 100/1. The copolymer is preferably a polyethylene terephthalate/polyethylene oxide block copolymer and the salt is preferably an alkali metal salt. The film exhibits low surface resistivity, even at low relative humidity.
Abstract:
A turbine lubricant having outstanding oxidation stability, corrosion resistance and good viscosity stability is based on an alkyl phenyl phosphate ester and contains small amounts of benzotriazole, a mixed mono- and dialkylphosphate of the formula RH.sub.2 PO.sub.4 and R.sub.2 HPO.sub.4, wherein R is an alkyl group of 8-12 carbon atoms, and an antioxidant selected from the group consisting of:(a) a C.sub.12 to C.sub.18 alcohol ester of 3,3'-thiodipropionic acid;(b) pentaerythritol tetra(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate, and(c) 4,4'-thiobis-(3-methyl-6-tert-butylphenol).
Abstract:
Tributoxyethylphosphate is useful in controlling foam produced during the evaporative crystallization of calcined trona solutions. The chemical is effective at low concentrations, i.e. 1 to 30 ppm, and does not significantly alter the crystal habit of the sodium carbonate crystals.
Abstract:
Apparatus for detecting alcohol vapour in a gas, such as exhaled breath. The apparatus comprises a detachable mouthpiece through which a person exhales. The mouthpiece includes a vent for venting some exhaled breath to atmosphere and an outlet port connected to a sensor which provides an electrical output dependent upon the amount of alcohol in the breath sample. A piston and cylinder valve assembly is provided for introducing a predetermined amount of the sample into the sensor at a time dictated by an operator. A calibrated meter, which may be analogue or digital is connected to the sensor to indicate the amount of alcohol in the sample.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to novel vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-binding polypeptides and methods for using these polypeptides to inhibit biological activities mediated by vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs). The present disclosure also provides various improvements relating to single domain binding polypeptides.

Abstract:
The invention relates to apparatus for measuring blood pressure by providing an inflatable cuff and pulse sensing means for fixing to a digit such as, for example, a finger or toe, and electrical control circuit means for converting a sense pulsed into a visual or audible indication, pneumatic means for transmitting the sensed pulse to the converting means and pressure means for measuring the pressure exerted in the cuff, the arrangement being such that with the cuff in a operative position on the body, progressive inflation/deflation of the cuff is effected until pulse sensing means just detect the presence of the pulse thus providing an indication of the systolic blood pressure. The invention includes novel variable capacitors for pneumatic coupling to the pulse sensor and comprising a housing, a diaphragm disposed across the housing, a base plate disposed on the side of the diaphragm opposite from said pneumatic connection, and electrical connecting means provided to the base plate so that changes in the volume occur the cavity defined by the base plate and the diaphragm due to pressure changes in the pneumatic system above the diaphragm, resulting in changes in capacitance and sensing of the pulse within the pneumatic system to be determined.
