Abstract:
A drug delivery device containing a sterile multi dose reservoir. Said sterile reservoir can be used with many types of delivery including injectors or aerosol drug delivery systems. Elevated pressure surrounding the reservoir is used during storage to ensure sterility is maintained. Mechanisms to prevent delivery in the case of potential compromise of sterility are disclosed. A device using the pressure to meter formulation from the reservoir is disclosed.
Abstract:
A pump used to infuse a fluid into a patient is controlled in accordance with an algorithm that enables a microprocessor to monitor and adjust each pump cycle to compensate for a differential pressure between the pump's inlet and outlet. The algorithm defines a fluid delivery protocol that is applied in controlling the operation of the pump to achieve a desired rate, volume, and timing of the fluid infusion. Fluid is delivered by the pump when a plunger compresses an elastomeric membrane overlying a fluid chamber. Due to the small volume of the chamber, an incremental change in the plunger position before the delivery stroke produces a significant change in the delivery pressure. At the beginning of a pump cycle, the microprocessor determines the differential pressure between the inlet and outlet of the pump, and adjusts the plunger position before the delivery stroke to compensate for the differential pressure. A retraction of the plunger from the home position decreases the delivery pressure of the fluid, and an advancement of the plunger increases it. After the position of the plunger is adjusted to compensate for the differential pressure, the pump cycle proceeds. Following the plunger stroke, the outlet pressure is used to determine the actual volume of fluid delivered. The duration of the plunger stroke in the next pump cycle is adjusted to compensate for any volume delivery error produced by the differential pressure compensation.
Abstract:
An x-ray collimator can be constructed from multiple subassemblies, which at least includes a first subassembly that reduces the leakage of x-ray radiation between adjacent apertures and a second subassembly that reduces the spill of x-ray radiation around the detector face. Each of these subassemblies has numerous apertures. In the first subassembly these apertures correspond to focal spots on an x-ray source, and in the second subassembly, these apertures are shaped such that the dimensions increase from smaller entrances to larger exits.

Abstract:
Devices for delivering an aerosolized drug formulation and methods for using such devices are herein provided. Specifically, the invention relates to a drug delivery device that contains a drug formulation and an actuator for aerosolizing the formulation in preparation for drug delivery. The drug delivery devices of the invention are configured for delivering a single dose of an active agent (e.g., a pharmaceutical compound) or a mixture of multiple active agents and may further be configured so as to be hand-held, self-contained, portable and disposable. Methods of treatment and drugs that are suitable for use in the subject devices are also disclosed.
Abstract:
An environmentally safe lubricating composition comprising a suspension of submicron molybdenum disulfide in canola oil is disclosed. Preferably the canola oil comprises trimethylol propane trioleate ester. In combining the molybdenum disulfide with the canola oil it preferred that the high shear mixing occur in the presence of a magnetic field.
