Abstract:
A vortex particle separator has an impeller at a housing inlet with impeller blades spiraling around an impeller shaft and longitudinal axis of the separator to impart either clockwise or counterclockwise rotation to air flowing through the impeller when viewed looking downstream along the axis. The upstream end of each impeller blade is inclined in a direction opposite to the direction the air rotates when passing through the impeller, measured from a radial baseline through the axis and the juncture of the blade with the center shaft of the impeller. Thus, in each orthogonal plane along the axial length of the impeller the juncture of the blade with the housing is offset from the baseline in the rotational direction opposite the direction in which air flows through the impeller. An offset angle of 45° to 55° is believed suitable.
Abstract:
A cover for an air filter housing of a motor vehicle has a clear cover with a gasket having a first channel enclosing an outer periphery of the cover. The gasket has a second channel configured to receive an inwardly extending flange on the air filter housing which flange extends around a viewing opening in the housing. The gasket has an end portion connected to the second channel that is inwardly and downwardly inclined to allow the end portion to slip over the flange and form a snap lock with the flange retaining the gasket and cover over the opening in the air filter housing. The end portion has a downwardly inclined edge below the flange, so the cover and gasket can be removed from the housing by pulling on a pull tab extending from the gasket.
Abstract:
An engine air filter box has an inlet housing and an outlet housing separated by a base plate with plural openings. Each opening is covered by a filter having a different height selected to fit between the base plate and the inlet housing while increasing air flow through the openings. The filter shape and cap shape can also be varied.
Abstract:
An intake tube has an inner and outer curved surface adjacent a turbocharger. A crankcase hose connects to the inner curved surface at a hose opening. Upstream ends of first and second struts straddle the hose opening and extend between and connect to the inner and outer curved walls. The struts have an oval-shaped cross section with a larger upstream end that forces air between the two struts and between each strut and the adjacent tube wall to create a low pressure at the hose opening to draw gases from the hose into the intake and turbocharger.
