Abstract: A rearview device for a motor vehicle includes: a moveable mirror head assembly that includes an upper casing element, a lower casing element, and a bezel that carries a mirror glass; a base frame; a camera secured within a camera cradle that is mounted to the base frame; a motor cradle connected to the upper and lower casing elements; and an articulation assembly attached to the base frame and configured to move the moveable mirror head assembly connected to the articulation assembly via the motor cradle; wherein the camera is positioned to view through at least one of (i) an opening in the bezel through the mirror glass, or (ii) an opening in the lower casing element behind the mirror glass.

Abstract: A single arm telescoping mirror apparatus comprising a mirror base and mirror head. In one embodiment, a mirror base having a wear plate secured to a single support arm which frictionally engages a single telescoping tube of the mirror head. Furthermore, a mirror base having a roller assembly which frictionally engage the inner wall of a single telescoping tube of the mirror head. Frictional forces created minimize the telescopic or vibrational movement of the mirror head during use of a vehicle. In another aspect, a wear plate is secured to a single telescoping tube while, roller assemblies are attached to a support arm which frictionally engage ridges of the telescoping tube.

Abstract: A modulation control method for a filter device for avoiding flicker appearing in streamed video images before acquiring images, includes setting the exposure time to be equal or longer than an oscillating light source's period duration or to be as long as possible between two frames in the image acquisition of streamed video images, polarizing of incoming light in a first polarizer to turn into polarized light with a first polarization, altering the polarization of the light with the first polarization in an electro- or magneto-optic modulator by an angle α to turn into light with a second polarization, and reducing an amount of light with the second polarization in a second polarizer.

Abstract: An assembly set for assembling an external rearview system for a motor vehicle is provided. The external rearview system when assembled may include a base assembly provided for arrangement on the motor vehicle, and a head assembly attached to the base assembly. The assembly set may include (i) a first head assembly comprising, a first rearview device comprising at least one reflective element in form of a mirror glass, (ii) a second head assembly comprising, a second rearview device comprising at least one reflective element in form of an at least partly translucent mirror glass, and at least one first camera unit being configured to obtain a rearview image through the reflective element, and (iii) a third head assembly with at least one component of a camera monitor system. The head assembly may be configured to be detachable and is selected to be the first, second or third head assembly, with the first, second and third head assembly being exchangeable with each other.

Abstract: A positioning system for a rear view display device includes at least a first gear rod for positioning a cover plate, a second gear rod for positioning the cover plate, a spring jack, and a position sensing means. The first gear rod, the second gear rod, and the spring jack may include conductive material. The spring jack may be adapted to contact the first gear rod and the second gear rod. The position sensing means may be adapted to sense the position of the first gear rod relative to the spring jack with at least a first resistance value of a first conductive path between at least a first point on the first gear rod and the spring jack varying with the position of the first gear rod relative to the spring jack.

Abstract: A lens includes a first interface acting as a refractive entrance surface for a light ray, a second interface acting as a total inner reflective (TIR) surface for the light ray entering the lens through the first interface, and a third interface acting as a refractive exit surface for the light ray reflected at the second interface. A method of producing a lens includes shaping the second interface and the third interface so that at least two light rays having a diverging angle to each other and impinging under an arbitrary solid angle onto the first interface exit the lens in the area of the third interface substantial parallel to each other and in a common direction of space.
