Abstract: A demodulator for signals angularly related to the position of a rotor of a synchro or resolver uses, in one embodiment, only one transformer in a circuit for subtracting, adding, and phase shifting the signals to produce a single signal phase shifted in proportion to the rotor angle. In another embodiment, a transformerless circuit uses an operational amplifier to derive the phase shifted signal. The phase shifted signal is compared with a reference signal to produce a rectangular wave with a variable duty cycle, which is integrated to produce a DC voltage representing the rotor angle. A pair of the circuits are used in an altitude warning system connected to synchros for the actual altitude and the command altitude of an aircraft. The derived phase shifted signals from both synchros are compared to produce a rectangular wave with a variable duty cycle, which is integrated and compared with voltages representing preselected altitudes to indicate when the aircraft is at those altitudes.

Abstract: An apparatus for determining a characteristic, as velocity or direction, of a fluid flow stream. Fluid sensors generate signals which are differentially compared to produce an error signal representative of the amount of movement, for the sensors or for a fluid stream generator, which is necessary to null the system. A servomechanism produces the nulling movement in response to the error signal. The amount of movement also generates a positional signal indicating the low frequency component or steady state characteristic of the fluid flow stream. A signal adder combines the positional signal with the error signal, containing a high frequency component, to provide an indication of the instantaneous fluid characteristic.

Abstract: Disclosed is a piezoelectric pressure transducer particularly suited for use with an engine gauge for measuring pressures in internal combustion engines or for sensing pressure in other severe temperature environments. A thin, flat diaphragm is protected by a ceramic shield and other elements of the gauge are made of material having a low thermal expansion such as invar. Access to the diaphragm is by way of a small annular, stepped groove to cool the gases acting on the diaphragm. A piezoelectric element such as quartz having two sensitive axes is employed and long term temperature effects are nullified by applying compensating stresses to the second axis of the piezoelectric element.

Abstract: In a system where the aircraft''s distance below a radio glide slope is compared with the aircraft''s altitude above ground to generate either an advisory voice warning or a command voice warning depending upon the aircraft''s altitude and distance below the radial glide slope beam, the repetition rate of the advisory voice warning is varied as both a function of distance below the radio glide slope beam and of altitude in order to generate advisory warnings at a rate reflecting increasing danger to the aircraft. Abstract: A collimated head up display of pitch related information for an aircraft operator. A generated pitch signal combines a gyroscope signal referenced to the airframe with an inertial signal referenced to the head up display or combiner screen. A pitch error signal representing the difference between the generated pitch signal and the inertial pitch signal is limited and integrated to develop a pitch correction signal which is added to the gyroscope signal. Reference of the inertial signal to the combiner screen of the display eliminates static alignment errors. The pitch correction signal may be selected for display during alignment of the combiner screen.
