Abstract:
This invention provides a voltage tunable filter comprising an input connection point, an output connection point, and at least one circuit branch electrically coupled to the input connection point and the output connection point and including a voltage tunable dielectric varactor electrically connected to an inductor. The voltage tunable filter can be one of a low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, or band-stop filter. The varactor can include built-in DC blocking capacitors.
Abstract:
A method of making ferroelectric thin film composites includes the step of roviding a barium strontium titanate material with an additive magnesia-based and forming a thin film ferroelectric composite using pulsed laser deposition. The method forms a thin film composite having enhanced electronic properties.
Abstract:
In a pulsed laser deposition system, the two optical actions of focusing rastering, and the optical chamber window are combined into a single optics system. The single optics system is mounted on the processing chamber. Combining the three separate optical functions into one optics system facilitates laser beam control and reduces the space needed for the apparatus.
Abstract:
A method and system for using Equivalent Time Sampling to improve the effective sampling rate of sensor data, and using the improved-resolution data for diagnosis and control. Data samples from existing sensors are provided, where the sampling rate of the existing sensors is not sufficient to accurately characterize the parameters being measured. High-resolution data sets are reconstructed using Equivalent Time Sampling. High-resolution input data sets are used in a system model to simulate the performance of the system being measured. Results from the system model, and high-resolution output data sets from Equivalent Time Sampling, are provided to an estimator, which provides accurate estimation of measured quantities and estimation of quantities not measured. Output from the estimator is used for fault diagnosis and control of the system being measured.
Abstract:
Systems and methods related to performance measurement and reporting are described. In one method, a first application is profiled in a first profiling session to generate a first parameter dataset related to performance of segments of the first application. A session report is created based on the first parameter dataset. Further, based in part on the session report, comments for one or more of the segments of the application are received. A consolidated report is then generated based on the first parameter dataset and the comments.

A tunable dielectric structure includes a first layer of dielectric material, a second layer of dielectric material positioned adjacent to the first layer of dielectric material, with the second layer of dielectric material having a dielectric constant that is less than the dielectric constant of the first layer of dielectric material, and electrodes for applying a controllable voltage across the first dielectric material, thereby controlling a dielectric constant of the first dielectric material, wherein at least one of the electrodes is positioned between the first and second layers of dielectric material. The dielectric materials can be formed in various shapes and assembled in various orientations with respect to each other. The tunable dielectric structure is used in various devices including coaxial cables, cavity antennas, microstrip lines, coplanar lines, and waveguides.

Abstract:
Ceramic ferroelectric composite materials comprising barium strontium titte/magnesium and oxygen-containing compound composite further doped with rare earth (lanthanide) oxides. More particularly, these inventive composites are comprised of Ba.sub.1-x Sr.sub.x TiO.sub.3 /Mg--O based compound/rare earth oxide composite, wherein x is greater than or equal to 0.0 but less than or equal to 1.0, and wherein the weight ratio of BSTO to Mg compound may range from 99.75-20 wt. % BSTO to 0.25-80 wt. % Mg compound, and wherein said rare earth oxide additive comprises less than about 10 mole percent of the composite. The rare earth oxides of the composite include all oxides of the lanthanide series elements including scandium and yttrium, as well as combinations thereof. The magnesium-based compound may be selected from the group consisting of MgO, MgZrO.sub.3, MgZrSrTiO.sub.3, MgTiO.sub.3, and MgCO.sub.3. This new class of composite materials has enhanced electronic properties including: low dielectric constants; substantially decreased electronic loss (low loss tangents); increased tunability; increased temperature stability; decreased sintering temperatures; and low curie temperatures. The electronic properties of these new materials can be tailored for various applications including phased array antenna systems, capacitors, transmission wire, wireless communication, and pyroelectric guidance devices.
Abstract:
A laminated ceramic ferroelectric material has adjacent layers of Barium ontium Titanate (BSTO)--oxide composite stacked in order of descending oxide content and sized in thickness to produce a generally equal capacitance across each layer, resulting in a material having a graded dielectric constant for use in phased array antenna, for example. The oxides are from the metallic oxide group consisting of alumina, zirconia and magnesia and the layers are produced by tape casting.
