Abstract: A convertible print head carrying a plurality of needles comprises a rear portion carrying members controlling the needles and a front one portion including a slidable third device at the rear portion. The front one portion includes a front bracket comprising two portions carrying industrial rubies in which are guiding channels for said needles arranged in vertical columns.A first control device allows a relative displacement between said two portions so as to align or offset the positions of the needles in the columnar arrangements.A second control device is adapted to displace vertically the two portions simultaneously by means of an electromagnet. The front bracket is connected to an assembly by means of two flexible blades of the slidable third device.

Abstract: The electrode is composed of nine capillary tubes, tightly held in a square bundle by a casing, which covers the entire length of the tubes except for a portion next to the field forming ends of the tubes. The electrode is fabricated by placing the tubes into a piece of tubular stock, stretching the stock so as to squeeze it about the tubes to form the casing, cutting the resulting assembly into sections of the desired length, and removing that part of the casing next to the active face of the tubes.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for fixing a miniaturized component, especially comprising a micro-optical element, to a pre-determined fixing section of a baseplate by means of a soldered joint. Said baseplate comprises an upper side and a lower side, and the component comprises a base surface. At least the fixing section of the baseplate is coated on the upper side by a metallic layer which is applied at least in the fixing section in a continuously plane manner and thus without interruptions. Solder material is applied at least to the fixing section coated with the metallic layer. In one step of the method, the component is arranged above the fixing section, the base surface of the component being positioned above the solder material in such a way that they do not touch, are vertically interspaced and form an intermediate region between each other. In another step, thermal energy is supplied, especially by means of a laser beam, in a region which is locally limited essentially to the fixing section, in order to melt the solder from the lower side of the baseplate, such that the intermediate region is filled by drop formation of the melted solder, fixing both sides.

Abstract: An electrothermal printer having a print head provided with a plurality of wire electrodes, an ink ribbon, and a heating ribbon separate from the ink ribbon. The heating ribbon is in the form of a layer of material which is a poor conductor of electricity and a layer of electrically conductive material. The current passing between one or several of the electrodes in the print head to the heating ribbon conductive layer which is in contact with an appropriate sliding contact or electrode heats a localized area, or localized areas, of the heating ribbon which in turn transfers heat to corresponding localized areas of the ink ribbon for transferring ink on a sheet of paper. The ink ribbon and the heating ribbon are displaced at the same speed past the print head. The printer of the invention permits high rate printing at a relatively low cost of supplies. With the ink ribbon omitted, printing can be effected directly on thermo-sensitive paper.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method, a device and a system for fixing a miniaturized component—especially carrying or containing at least one optical element—to a carrier plate in a highly-precise manner, by means of a soldered joint, a welded joint or an adhesive joint. Said component is positioned above the carrier plate in a relation to outer reference points by means of a gripper pertaining to a robot station. A joint is then created between the component and the carrier plate, the joint seam hardening under contraction between the component and the carrier plate, thus exerting a vertical tractive force on the gripper holding the component. At the same time as the contraction, the gripper is vertically displaced towards the carrier plate in a controlled or regulated manner, optionally up to a defined nominal position, and actively yields to the contraction such that the creation of high tensions is largely avoided and the position does not change when the component is detached from the gripper. The invention also relates to a gripper for using in said method.
