Abstract:
A two-axis robot includes a vertical tubular post mounted for rotation about its vertical axis, with a vertically slidable shaft extending through the post. An arm on the upper end of the post projects radially outward and has a gripper assembly thereon with operable jaws for gripping a specimen tube. The robot is positioned between two reference locations, for retrieving a specimen tube from one reference location and transferring it to the other. The reference locations are located along a circle circumscribed by a central vertical axis of the gripper jaws as they swing about the rotational axis of the post.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to a continuously cleanable, high performance filtration apparatus and a method for using the apparatus. The apparatus is a radial inflow centrifugal filtration device, which includes a filter element located within a chamber and rotatably coupled to a filtered fluid outlet in a bulkhead that abuts the chamber. The filter element is generally tubular, its side-walls encircling and, thus, defining an interior plenum. The filter element side-walls incorporate a filter media, preferably a laminated microporous membrane filter media. The filter element is rotatably coupled at the filtered fluid outlet by a seal which can maintain a seal as filter element rotates. Additionally, the device can include a boundary layer momentum transfer device made up of a plurality of stacked annular disks having central openings, each disk separated from adjacent disks by a desired gap. The central openings define a cavity in which the filter element is mounted.
Abstract:
A rear-facing toilet is a toilet having a seat which is positioned such that a user faces the tank when sitting. The toilet further has leg lifting portions which assist in elevating the knees of a user on the toilet. The top of the tank may serve as a worktable or storage tray. Footrests and foot ramps are provided about the base of the toilet permitting a user to rest his or her feet while the toilet is in use.
Abstract:
Provided are apparatus and systems for performing a swing adsorption process. This swing adsorption process may involve performing dampening for fluctuations in the streams conducted away from the adsorbent bed unit. The process may be utilized for swing adsorption processes, such as rapid cycle TSA and/or rapid cycle PSA, which are utilized to remove one or more contaminants from a gaseous feed stream.
Abstract:
A system and method for liquefying a natural gas stream, including a liquefaction heat exchanger having at least three cooling bundles and arranged such that the natural gas stream passes sequentially therethrough. A first cooling bundle condenses heavy hydrocarbon components in the natural gas stream. A second cooling bundle liquefies the natural gas stream. A third cooling bundle sub-cools the LNG stream. A hydraulic turbine has an inlet operationally connected to an outlet of the second cooling bundle, and an outlet operationally connected to an inlet of the third cooling bundle. The hydraulic turbine cools the LNG stream and reduces the pressure of the LNG stream to form a reduced-pressure LNG stream.
Abstract:
A method of making a lasted skate boot having an upper for enclosing and supporting a human foot having an ankle, a plantar surface, a lateral side, a medial side, and toes. The method comprises (a) forming lateral and medial quarter panels by thermoforming a sheet of foam material such that at least one of the quarter panels comprises an inner surface shaped to substantially conform to one of the lateral and medial sides of the foot; (b) assembling to the quarter panels a toe box for enclosing the toes of the foot, an inner lining having an inner surface adapted to contact the foot in use, and a tongue extending upwardly and rearwardly from the toe box to form the upper; and (c) affixing to the upper an insole for facing the plantar surface of the foot.
Abstract:
A skate boot for ice skate or in-line roller skate comprising an upper having portions thereof made of compressed foam material. In a preferred embodiment, the skate boot is constructed with two preformed quarter panels made of compressed foam material having wherein the inner surface of each panel is shaped to substantially conform to the anatomical shape of a corresponding side of the human foot. Such a construction provides a skate boot, which is comfortable, long lasting, and exhibits flexibility and support. Such a construction also provides added flexibility to the skate designers to vary the dynamic properties of the skate and also the ornamental features of the skate. A method of making such a skate boot is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A dental video camera includes a housing which has an elongated cavity with a distal end and a proximal end, an adjustably focusing lens, a CCD camera system which is disposed within the elongated cavity of the housing, a fixed focusing lens system and an electrically adjustable iris. The adjustably focusing lens provides a focusing adjustment between a near field o:f focus and a far field of focus. The CCD camera system is optically coupled to the adjustably focusing lens and and is disposed in the elongated cavity of the housing adjacent to the distal end thereof. The electrically adjustable iris is optically coupled to the adjustably focusing lens and CCD camera system. The adjustable iris is adjusted between a nearly closed opening and a wide open opening in response to the focusing adjustment between the near field of focus and the far field of focus.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for automatically terminating the end of a flat flexible cable in a reciprocably actuable low insertion force connector having a dielectric housing with a cable receiving cavity and a terminal member disposed in the cavity. The connector also includes a reciprocating cover having a cable receiving aperture and mounting for reciprocable movement between an open position for receiving the cable, and a closed position for terminating the cable within the connector. The apparatus includes an insertion head and an arrangement for automatically positioning the insertion head with respect to the cable receiving aperture of the connector cover. The insertion head further includes a reciprocable cable feeder which inserts the cable end through the cover aperture, and a reciprocable actuator which moves the cover upon insertion of the cable and the connector.
