    Abstract: This is a process for producing synthesis gas, fuel gas, or reducing gas while controlling the mole ratio (CO/H2) of the product gas. Gaseous feed mixtures substantially comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen and containing CO2 and H2O are cooled and optionally purified to produce a process gas stream having a temperature of less than 1500*F. A gaseous mixture is then formed having a temperature above 1500*F. and comprising said process gas stream in admixture with a supplemental material selected from the group consisting of H2O and CO2-rich gas. The gaseous mixture is reacted in a free-flow non-catalytic thermal water-gas shift conversion zone to produce a stream of product gas having a mole ratio (CO/H2) which is greater than the mole ratio (CO/H2) of said gaseous feed mixture when said supplemental gas is CO2-rich gas, and a stream of product gas having a mole ratio (CO/H2) which is less than the mole ratio (CO/H2) of said gaseous feed mixture when said supplemental gas is H2O.

    Abstract: A method of assembling an air distribution system for distribution of an equal proportion of a combustion supporting gas as air to catalyst in a regenerator for providing regeneration of catalyst material in a fluid catalytic cracking process is disclosed. An exemplary air distribution system comprises a horizontal circular distributing ring centered in the catalyst in the regenerator and comprising two tapered semicircular tubes which are interconnected at their small ends and a splitter tube joint interconnecting a pressurized air supply source with the two larger ends of the tapered semicircular tubes. Also a closed end cylindrical plenum is mounted around and over the splitter tube joint with an air inlet solely from the pressurized air inlet end of the splitter tube joint. Exit orifices eject the pressurized air downwardly from both sides of the semicircular tubes and the plenum preferably at an angle of 45* below the horizon to provide improved even air distribution and an improved fluidized bed. Modifications utilize two and three coplanar rings spaced in the regenerator to provide an equal proportion of air-to-catalyst throughout the regenerator.

    Abstract: Jet fuels which have both a high heat content and an acceptable low temperature viscosity are prepared by the hydroalkylation of mononuclear aromatic hydrocarbon fractions. Benzene, toluene, and Udex extract, and mixtures thereof, are the preferred starting materials. These are hydroalkylated by reaction at about 30*250* C. under super-atmospheric pressures of about 20-70 atmospheres of hydrogen, thus producing hydroalkylates containing cycloalkyl-substituted benzenes, methylcyclohexyl-substituted toluenes and the like. These are further reduced to the corresponding cycloalkyl-substituted cyclohexanes, together with methylcyclohexyl methylcyclohexanes and methylcyclohexane when toluene is used, and the reduction products are adjusted to a final desired heat content and low temperature viscosity by stripping off or adding methylcyclohexane. The preferred catalyst is finely divided nickel on a support containing both a zeolite and a silica-alumina cracking catalyst.

    Abstract: Process for the production of a methane-rich gas stream from a hydrocarbonaceous feedstock with all steps being carried out at or slightly above the desired pressure of delivery. Effluent gas from a free-flow partial-oxidation synthesis-gas generator, and preferably containing from about 10-26 volume percent methane on a dry basis is reacted with steam and without a catalyst at a temperature in the range of 2,800 to 1,500* F. to produce a stream of shifted gases having a mole ratio H2/CO in the range of 1.5 to 4 and preferably about 3. The shifted gases are then processed by the steps of scrubbing with a liquid hydrocarbon to recover particulate carbon, cooling to condense out water and volatile hydrocarbons, purifying by eliminating H2S and CO2 in a separation zone, and catalytically reacting the remaining H2 and CO in the process gas stream to produce a process gas stream comprising at least 45 volume percent methane on a dry basis.
