An apparatus and method are provided that are operable to install data storage devices such as CDs and DVDs each into a respective carrier. The data storage devices are placed in respective recesses in the respective carriers by providing an open pocket into which the data storage devices may move under the influence of gravity when the data storage device is close to the recess within a respective carrier. A securement device is provided to secure the data storage device within a respective carrier recess.

A carrier for storing a plurality of memory devices therein and a method of manufacture for the carrier are provided. The carrier includes a jacket having a plurality of interconnected panels. A hinge member is applied to a hinge edge of containers. One of the panels of the jacket is then secured to the hinge member to mount a stack of containers within the jacket. The stack may also be secured to a second panel of the jacket.

A spherical object is detected as it passes through an array of planer light beams and associated detectors. The construction of the apparatus is such that at least 4 planar light beams are obscured by the passing object, two parallel beams in one direction and two parallel beams in a second direction. The apparatus records the time at which each affected light beam is obstructed by the passing object. The apparatus then calculates the spatial position, velocity and trajectory of the object.
