    Abstract: A mold unit (22) for molding ophthalmic lenses comprises: an adapter piece (220) comprising an opening (2200) extending around a longitudinal axis (2201); a sleeve (221) fixedly connected to the adapter piece (220) and extending through the opening (2200) of the adapter piece (220); a lens mold (222) rigidly mounted to the sleeve (221); an adjustment ring (224) firmly attached to the sleeve (221) to circumferentially surround a portion of the sleeve (221). The adjustment ring (224) comprises a flat circular outer engagement surface (2244), and the adapter piece (220) comprises at least one clamping block (2211) having a flat inner clamping surface (2214). The flat inner clamping surface (2214) frictionally clamps the flat circular outer engagement surface (2244) to prevent inadvertent rotation of the sleeve (221) relative to the adapter piece (220) but to allow rotation of the sleeve (221) relative to the adapter piece (220) upon the application of a torque higher than a predetermined threshold torque.

    Abstract: A method for cleaning a molding insert for injection-molding of single-use ophthalmic lens molds comprises the steps of providing an insert holder and a molding surface of the molding insert faces away from the insert holder. A dry ice nozzle comprises an inlet for the supply of dry ice, a nozzle channel comprising a longitudinally extending diverging inner wall portion terminating in an outlet opening of the nozzle channel, and a nozzle housing with a circumferentially running distal end wall. The nozzle housing further comprises a housing wall portion extending away from the distal end wall to define an exhaust channel. The method further comprises positioning the dry ice nozzle on the insert holder, supplying dry ice particles to the nozzle inlet to generate a jet of dry ice particles impinging on the molding surface of the molding insert, and removing exhaust gases.

    Abstract: A method for optically inspecting a mold (10) for manufacturing ophthalmic lenses such as contact lenses for possible mold defects, including: generating a set of images of the mold (10) for different azimuthal illumination angles (ϕ1, ϕ9) using an illumination system (20) and an imaging system (30), the latter being aligned such that its focal plane cuts through the mold (10) at a specific axial position along a center axis of the mold (10); generating a focal plane image by averaging pixelwise over the set of images after having masked out in each image those regions that include direct specular reflections from the mold (10); repeating the previous steps for one or a plurality of different axial positions of the focal plane such as to generate a plurality of different focal plane images; identifying one or more image features in the plurality of focal plane images indicative for a possible mold defect; determining for each identified image feature in which focal plane image the identified image feature appears sharpest; generating for each identified image feature a respective image section out of the respective sharpest focal plane containing the image feature; and generating a composed dark field image of the mold (10) by composing the respective image sections for each identified image feature, thus enabling to determine as to whether the possible defects of the mold (10) still allow the mold (10) to be used.
