Abstract: A system for performing ophthalmic surgery includes a robotic positioning system including an end effector. The robotic positioning system is configured to position the end effector with at least five degrees of freedom. An ophthalmic surgical instrument is mounted to the end effector along with an accessory device configured to facilitate performance of an ophthalmic treatment by the ophthalmic surgical instrument. The robotic positioning system may be controlled to enforce anatomical boundaries and implement predefined motion profiles.

Abstract: A system for performing ophthalmic treatments includes a surgical microscope configured to capture surface images of an eye of a patient and an imaging device mounted to the surgical microscope and configured to capture section images of the eye of the patient. A controller is coupled to the surgical microscope and the imaging device, the controller configured to receive the surface images and section images and provide feedback facilitating performance of the ophthalmic treatments based on the section images and the surface images. Feedback may relate to avoiding bag rupture during phacoemulsification, safely performing retinal membrane peeling, placing an IOL, treating glaucoma, or performing other ophthalmic treatments.

Abstract: A delivery device includes a conveyor, one or more imaging devices configured to have an eye of a patient in a field of view thereof, and an needle assembly configured to receive a drug to be injected into the eye of the patient. A staging assembly is mounted to the conveyor and includes one or more actuators configured to position the needle assembly relative to the eye of the patient. A controller is configured to receive one or more images from the one or more imaging devices; detect a location of anatomy of the eye of the patient in the one or more images; and activate the one or more actuators to drive a needle mounted to the needle assembly into a placement location on the eye of the patient according to the location of the anatomy. The controller activates the needle assembly to inject fluid into the eye or draw tissue out of the eye.

Abstract: In certain embodiments, a surgical handpiece system includes a phacoemulsification tip, a fluid management system, an ultrasonic drive system, and a controller. The phacoemulsification tip is attached to a shaft. The fluid management system is configured to manage inflow and outflow of fluid from an ocular surgical site. The ultrasonic drive system is configured to generate torsional and longitudinal vibrations in the phacoemulsification tip. The controller is configured to analyze applied voltage and current to the ultrasonic drive system using Fast Fourier Transforms (FFTs), and tune applied frequencies of the torsional and longitudinal vibrations according to at least one resonant frequency.

Abstract: A system for performing ophthalmic treatments includes a handpiece configured to be held by a hand of a surgeon. An end effector is mounted to the handpiece and configured to manipulate tissue of a patient, such tissues of the eye when performing an ophthalmic treatment. The system includes a motion sensor configured to sense movement of the handpiece and one or more stabilizing actuators configured to stabilize movement of the handpiece in response to movement of the hand of the surgeon. A controller is coupled to the motion sensor and the one or more stabilizing actuators and is configured to instruct the one or more stabilizing actuators to compensate for motion detected by the motion sensor. The controller may include a high-pass filer with the output of the high-pass filter used to control the stabilizing actuators. The parameters of the high pass filter may be adjusted throughout an ophthalmic treatment.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to fluid control valves for delivering and/or aspirating fluid during ophthalmic surgeries and procedures. In one embodiment, a valve assembly includes a first portion configured to fluidly couple with a gas supply line and a second portion configured to fluidly couple with a liquid supply line and an infusion line via two or more through channels. The first portion and the second portion are partitioned or separated from each other by a filter having a hydrophobic membrane configured to prevent the flow of liquids therethrough while allowing the free flow of gas. Accordingly, an infusion liquid may flow through the second portion while gases may be simultaneously aspirated through the first portion, without any liquids travelling into the gas supply line. The gas supply line may thus be utilized to vent or purge gases from the infusion line before or during performance of surgical procedures.

Abstract: A control system for an ultrasonic hand piece is provided. The control system includes an irrigation pressure sensor configured to measure a pressure of an irrigation fluid, an ultrasonic power source configured to provide power to an ultrasonic transducer, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive a selection of an ultrasonic power modality, generate a control signal based on the selected ultrasonic power modality, provide the control signal to the ultrasonic power source, determine an irrigation flow rate from a measured irrigation pressure provided by the irrigation pressure sensor, calculate a thermal index value based on the irrigation flow rate and the selected ultrasonic power modality, and, in response to the thermal index value reaching a threshold value, adjust the control signal based on the thermal index value. The ultrasonic power modality is one of a two dimensional power modality and a three dimensional power modality.

At least one pump assembly is disposed within the at least one pump landing and configured to provide a source of pressure or vacuum to the one or more channels of the housing.
