Abstract: An elongated medical instrument includes a base instrument and a swollen gel film coating the base instrument. The swollen gel film includes a polymer including a repeating unit with a betaine structure and a repeating unit with a carboxyl group (excluding the repeating unit with the betaine structure). A method of providing an elongated medical instrument includes applying a coating agent to a base instrument, the coating agent including a polymer having a repeating unit with an ester-bonded betaine structure, an organic solvent, and water, and forming a swollen gel film by heating coating and hydrolyzing an ester bond in the polymer.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide an elongated medical appliance including a substrate, a base layer, and a top layer, in which the top layer is composed of a polymer material with a copolymer including a polymer unit having a hydrophilic structure and crosslinked by any of the following formulas (1) to (3): *—CH(OH)—CH(R1)—O—C(═O)—NH—R2—NH—C(═O)—OCH(R1)—CH(OH)—* (1) *—CH(OH)—CH(R1)—O—C(═O)—NH—R2—NH—C(═O)—OCH(CH(R1)—OH)—* (2) *—CH(CH(R1)—OH)—O—C(═O)—NH—R2—NH—C(═O)—OCH(CH(R1)—OH)—* (3) and in which the base layer is composed of an isocyanate compound, and the isocyanate compound binds to the structures represented by formulas (1) to (3). This elongated medical appliance is excellent in lubricity and adhesiveness between the substrate and a coating film.

Abstract: The guide wire includes a core shaft, a coil body with a wire helically wound around the outer periphery of the core shaft, and a coating layer provided on the outer periphery of the coil body. The coating layer has a peak portion protruding in the outer peripheral direction of the guide wire in a swollen state. On a cross-section including a central axis of the coil body, an apex of the peak portion is present at a position on a proximal end side of a first virtual straight line that extends through a central point of a first transverse section of the wire and is perpendicular to the central axis and at a position on a distal end side of a second virtual straight line that extends through a central point of second transverse section of the wire and is perpendicular to the central axis.
